Dixie/Honeycomb Rocks

Overview

Dixie/Honeycomb Rocks offers a unique camping experience nestled within the rugged beauty of the Dixie National Forest near Enterprise, Utah. Known for its namesake sandstone formations that resemble oversized honeycombs, this campground provides a serene backdrop for those seeking a deeper connection with nature. At an elevation of approximately 5,700 feet, the park offers cooler temperatures than the nearby low-desert regions, making it a refreshing retreat during the warmer months. It is an ideal spot for those who appreciate natural geological wonders.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated just south of the town of Enterprise, positioned between the Upper and Lower Enterprise Reservoirs. The landscape is a striking blend of pinyon-juniper woodlands and dramatic red rock outcrops. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by scenic vistas that characterize the transition between the Great Basin and the Mojave Desert. The quiet, remote atmosphere is perfect for those who want to escape the crowded tourist corridors of southern Utah while remaining within reach of local supplies in town.

Amenities & Park Features

As a National Forest site, the facilities here are focused on providing a rustic, authentic outdoor experience. While there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups, the park features well-maintained vault toilets and potable water available at central spigots during the peak season. Each site is equipped with a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring with a grate for evening campfires. Most sites are designed to accommodate mid-sized RVs and trailers, though travelers should be prepared for gravel pads and the absence of a dump station on-site.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this area. The nearby Enterprise Reservoirs are popular destinations for trout fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the Honeycomb Rocks themselves offer endless opportunities for scrambling and photography. Additionally, the surrounding forest is crisscrossed with trails suitable for hiking and OHV exploration, allowing visitors to discover the hidden canyons and volcanic ridges that define this unique corner of southwestern Utah.

Who This Park Is Best For

This location is ideal for self-contained RVers who prioritize scenery and solitude over modern resort luxuries. It appeals to boondockers and nature photographers who want to wake up surrounded by unique geological features and desert flora. If you are looking for a quiet basecamp to explore the lesser-known wilderness of the Dixie National Forest, Dixie/Honeycomb Rocks is a perfect fit. It is best suited for travelers who enjoy a dark night sky and the simple sounds of the natural world.

Very clean with a small # of camps and a friendly host. Firewood was for sale. We were there the last weekend before they closed.

Free disperse camping nearby outside the campgrounds. Very peaceful and make sure to leave no trace once you leave.

Great campground, especially if camping with kids. The camp sites are up against fun holey rocks to climb on. Right at the reservoir. Although, there is free dispersed camping all around the campground, it was nice to have an approved fire pit, table and chairs, clean bathroom and shade.

Some road repair is needed up by the reservoir and I would prefer a place with more tree shade, but when it is a bit cooler would be nice.
