Dockweiler RV Park
Overview
Dockweiler RV Park offers a rare opportunity to camp directly on the sand in Los Angeles County. As the only beachfront RV park in the area, it provides a unique coastal experience where the Pacific Ocean serves as your front yard. This county-operated facility is known for its accessibility and proximity to the vibrant energy of Southern California's coastline, making it a sought-after destination for West Coast travelers seeking a true oceanfront stay.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Playa Del Rey, the park sits on the edge of the expansive Dockweiler State Beach. The environment is defined by wide stretches of sand and the constant rhythm of the surf. Travelers should note the proximity to LAX airport; while the location offers a front-row seat to departing aircraft, the urban soundtrack is part of the park's distinct character. The park is conveniently connected to the famous Marvin Braude Bike Trail, which spans miles of scenic coastline.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is designed for functional comfort, featuring full hookups at its sites, including water, sewer, and electrical connections to accommodate various rig sizes. Guests have access to essential facilities such as restrooms and hot showers, which are vital for rinsing off salt and sand after a day at the beach. Additional amenities include a laundry room and a dump station. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a barbecue grill, encouraging outdoor dining and sunset viewing.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the 22-mile paved bike path that connects the park to Manhattan Beach and the Santa Monica Pier. The beach itself is one of the few in the region that features public fire rings, allowing visitors to enjoy traditional beach bonfires under the stars. Within a short drive, guests can explore the upscale marinas of Marina del Rey or the world-famous boardwalk at Venice Beach, offering a mix of relaxation and urban exploration.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for active travelers who prioritize a premier location and direct water access over a secluded, quiet resort atmosphere. It is a fantastic choice for aviation enthusiasts due to the unique views of ascending planes and for families who want a beachfront basecamp. If you are looking for a convenient spot to explore Los Angeles while enjoying the sea breeze, this park fits your travel style perfectly.

The RV Guys
Extremely disappointing experience. During our stay, the exit from the RV park was completely blocked, leaving no clear way for guests to leave. We carefully exited through the entrance at a very slow speed with our hazard lights on while another member of our party walked in front of the vehicle to ensure everything was safe. Afterward, Angela, who identified herself as the supervisor, confronted us in a very aggressive and confrontational manner. Instead of addressing the fact that the designated exit was blocked and discussing a safe solution, she informed us that because we used the entrance to exit, neither we nor anyone in our party would be allowed back into the RV park. What was most concerning was the response when we asked what guests should do in an emergency if the exit is blocked. Angela’s answer was essentially that they would “figure it out then.” For a facility responsible for the safety of families, RVs, and large vehicles, that response was alarming. The issue was not the rule itself—it was the lack of a safe alternative and the dismissive attitude toward what appeared to be a legitimate safety concern. We enjoyed the location, but the handling of this situation and the lack of concern for emergency access left a very negative impression.

If you don’t mind staying at a camp site with absolute zero communication this is the place. Beautiful views and cheap price. Laundry is broken, the gate code switches and they don’t tell you so you can spend your night circling the parking lot until you find a guard or someone to tell you the new code. Parking is absolute trash and overflow parking is “down the beach” . The sewers are at the very front of the site too so unless you have 5 hoses to connect your sewer then you lose you entire length of the site having to pull forward to have the sewer hose in. Overall this place sucks and the staff willingness to help is about -1/10 Homeless people will come in and around your site to shower and nobody is around to do anything . They write parking tickets as well so follow those parking rules super well!

We stayed at Dockweiler RV Park this week and had a great experience overall. The location truly can’t be beat. You’re right on the beach with incredible ocean views and sunsets, and it’s just minutes from El Segundo where there are tons of great shops and places to eat. Everything you need is close by, which made our stay easy and convenient. One thing to be aware of is the constant sound of planes taking off and landing from LAX. It happens all day and through the night. If you’re sensitive to noise, that’s something to consider. For us, once we got used to it, it became part of the experience. The beachfront setting, easy access, and proximity to restaurants and stores made it a memorable stay. We would definitely come back, especially for the unbeatable oceanfront location.

Please pay attention - book this RV park at your own risk. In hindsight, I should have paid attention to the more recent reviews about how this place is being ran. This place is being staffed by incompetent people at best, or scammers at worst. We arrived at the site just after 7pm hoping for a good night rest after a 6 hr non stop drive. Note that our reservation document states that the security guard would have the entry passes if we check in after 8pm (so we arrived way before this time). The security guards at the park’s main entrance and the RV park entrance just gave us a run around, asking us to go back and forth their stations , before finally declaring they couldn’t help us at all. They made us wait for other guards to come in so we stayed until 8pm before finally giving up. We ended up staying in the closest available hotel and spending >$300 because we have a dog and we had to pay parking. To be fair, the supervisor called me back a day after I called the office to raise the issue. He was apologetic and owned up to their incompetence. He agreed to refund the fees I already paid but was floored once again when he told me it usually takes 45 days for refund to be processed! Speaking of scam-like process!!!

Location is spectacular because so different from BLM / NM / NP and the standard RV parks. We immediately booked two additional nights. We used the rental bikes opposite to the campsite for exploring the area. Would definitely return. In my opinion excellent value for money.
