Doran Regional Park

Overview

Doran Regional Park serves as a premier destination for RVers seeking a classic Northern California coastal experience. This sprawling park is located on a two-mile sand spit that separates the calm waters of Bodega Bay from the Pacific Ocean, creating a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. It provides a truly immersive natural environment where the constant sound of the surf is the primary soundtrack. Visitors often come here to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with the rugged, wind-swept beauty of the Sonoma Coast.

Location & Surroundings

The park is positioned at the southern tip of Bodega Bay, providing a unique vantage point of the surrounding headlands and coastline. To one side, the protected waters of the harbor offer a sanctuary for boats and wildlife, while the other side features the vast, open ocean. The terrain is a mix of sandy beaches, grassy dunes, and tidal marshes. This location is famous for its cool coastal climate, often shrouded in a picturesque morning fog that burns off to reveal bright blue afternoon skies.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a traditional camping environment, meaning most sites are designed for dry camping without water or electric hookups. There are over 120 individual campsites distributed across several loops, including some that are better sheltered from the wind by native cypress trees. Essential facilities include:

  • Clean restrooms and coin-operated hot showers
  • A centralized and well-maintained dump station near the park entrance
  • A multi-lane boat launch and jetty access for fishing and water enthusiasts

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The area is a haven for outdoor recreation. You can spend the afternoon beachcombing for treasures or flying kites in the consistent coastal breeze that the park is known for. Birdwatchers will find the Bird Walk Coastal Access Trail particularly rewarding, as it loops through a nearby marsh teeming with seasonal migrations. Just a short drive away, the town of Bodega Bay offers fresh local seafood and boutique shopping, while the nearby Sonoma Coast State Park provides miles of additional hiking trails and rugged cliffs to explore.

Who This Park Is Best For

Doran is best suited for travelers who prefer a scenic, rustic atmosphere over the amenities of a commercial RV resort. It is a favorite for pet owners, as dogs are welcome on leashes to enjoy the sand and surf alongside their owners. Families find the flat, expansive beach perfect for day-long play, and self-contained RV travelers will find the lack of hookups a small price to pay for the incredible views and ocean access. If you enjoy falling asleep to the sound of waves, this is the perfect stop.

Probably my favorite beach to go to. I've caught lots of crab here. Calm beach, great for kayaking, families, swimming and fishing. Nice bathrooms and outside rinse station

I have a whole day of fun at Doran Regional Park today with friends. We were there fishing and had lunch. The park is very clean and well-maintained. I enjoyed the area and the relaxation there. Dorian Regional Park also has a few parking lots. We had no problem with parking, even though we had to drive around the park and park our car in different lots.

We found a quiet beach called Salmon Creek. So beautiful! There is a couple paths to get down from parking areas. Outhouse style restrooms in the parking area as well. Lots of gulls and folkart made from items of the beach here. Very fun to explore!

Day use parking is $8.00 we spent the day at Duran. It was quite busy and a lot of people had their dogs too. Great place to walk on the beach and play in the sand. The restroom were fairly clean.

An interesting, spacious, and laid-back park. The loop trail and scenery are perfect for biking. Spotted lots of RVs filled with families, kids, and happy pets
