Dr Edmund A Babler Memorial
Overview
Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park offers a serene escape within the rolling hills of Wildwood. This 2,441-acre park was dedicated in 1934 and features significant Civilian Conservation Corps stone architecture throughout the grounds. For RVers, the campground provides a heavily wooded environment that feels worlds away from the city while maintaining modern convenience. It is a place where history and nature converge, offering a peaceful retreat for those looking to explore the Missouri River bluffs region in a quiet setting.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in western St. Louis County, the park is nestled in the rugged terrain of Wildwood, Missouri. Despite being less than 30 miles from the bustling downtown of St. Louis, the park’s dense forest canopy provides a deep sense of isolation. The surrounding area is characterized by limestone outcroppings and deep valleys. RV travelers will appreciate the winding scenic roads leading to the park entrance, though larger rigs should navigate the park interior roads with careful attention to the mature trees and natural elevation changes.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground at Babler is divided into multiple loops, offering both basic and electric hookup sites. Many sites are paved and relatively level, though the terrain varies throughout the forest. Guests have access to modern shower facilities and laundry, which are well-maintained by the state park staff. There is a centrally located dump station and a playground for families. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, the park features over 13 miles of hiking trails and a dedicated equestrian camp for those traveling with horses.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park boundaries, visitors can easily access the Saint Louis Zoo or the iconic Gateway Arch within a short drive. Closer to the park, the Rockwoods Reservation offers additional nature exploration, while the nearby city of Chesterfield provides extensive shopping and dining options. Inside the park, the paved bicycle trail is a highlight for families, offering a safe two-mile loop for riders of all skill levels. Seasonal activities include bird watching and enjoying the vibrant fall foliage that transforms the valley.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for nature enthusiasts and families who want a traditional camping experience without sacrificing proximity to urban amenities. It is a fantastic choice for those who appreciate historic CCC craftsmanship and quiet, wooded surroundings. While it lacks the high-speed amenities of a private resort, it is perfect for RVers seeking a scenic home base while visiting St. Louis. It is particularly well-suited for travelers looking for a rustic yet comfortable state park atmosphere with plenty of space to breathe.

We had an error and the campsite I thought was reserved didn't reserve for us on line. Have no fear! The campsite hosts here are the best. We got a site that day and one that they just opened from renovation. Everyone that we have come in contact with, from park staff to the law enforcement, have been so friendly and helpful. There's so much to do in this park, even my husband can't make up his mind.

Babler is a park we enjoy visiting once in a while... The visitor center is back to a normal schedule now... which was nice... Kevin and Jordan were knowledgeable and fun to talk to... We will definitely visit again...

Nice park in a nice area, peaceful. Decent hiking trails and a nice visitor center. Saw plenty of rangers and other staff on my visits, seems to be well-funded and maintained. Recommended.

Most RV sites currently under construction to add full RV hookups as of Sep 2024. This CCC Park has over 6 forest trails plus one dedicated to equestrian use. A nice quiet place with lots of shade. There is a park visitor's center (not open on Monday or Tuesday). Biking on park roads offers little traffic and lots of hills. Although it is a nice park it lacks a drawing feature such as a covered bridge, waterfall or climbing bluffs. The surrounding area has abundant shopping from quaint restaurants to big box stores.

Pretty scenery, huge park, lots to do, but the trails themselves were a bit overgrown and not well maintained
