Driftwood

Overview

Driftwood Provincial Park is a serene destination situated along the majestic Ottawa River in the Upper Ottawa Valley. This park is widely celebrated for its dramatic riverfront views and its proximity to the Laurentian Mountains on the Quebec side of the water. It offers a rugged, natural atmosphere where travelers can enjoy the quiet beauty of the Canadian Shield while still having convenient access from the main highway. It is a peaceful retreat that prioritizes the natural landscape over commercial distractions.

Location & Surroundings

Perched on Highway 17 near Stonecliffe, the park sits at a point where the Ottawa River widens significantly, creating a lake-like appearance. The surrounding landscape is defined by granite outcrops and a mix of pine and hardwood forests that provide excellent shade and privacy for campers. The view across the water toward the towering hills creates a picturesque backdrop that changes beautifully with the shifting light of the day, making it a favorite for photographers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features several campgrounds with a variety of electrical hookup sites suitable for different RV sizes and configurations. Essential facilities include clean comfort stations equipped with flush toilets, showers, and laundry equipment to make longer stays more comfortable for families. Water enthusiasts will appreciate the protected sandy beach area and the convenient boat launch, which provides easy access for motorboats, canoes, and kayaks looking to explore the expansive shoreline.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary focus here, with boating and fishing topping the list of activities for most visitors. The Ottawa River is a prime spot for catching walleye and pike, while the Oak Mountain Trail offers a challenging hike leading to a spectacular lookout point over the valley. For those who enjoy exploring local culture, the nearby town of Deep River offers grocery stores, local dining, and additional parkland to explore during a day trip.

Who This Park Is Best For

This location is best suited for RVers who appreciate waterfront camping and a quiet, contemplative environment away from the city. It is an excellent choice for active families and paddlers who want to spend their days on the river or exploring forest trails. Because it lacks the high-intensity activities of larger commercial resorts, it is perfect for those seeking a genuine connection with Ontario’s wilder side in a tranquil setting.

We absolutely loved this park. We look forward to coming back ! Big private campsites. We only had a short stay here. So not fully sure on what's available to do here. But will update my review after staying again. Site 67

Camped at site 1 , west river campground! Waterfront site and the water is not deep at for few meters. The park was very quiet and so the majority if the campers. I would rate low for the privacy of the sites on the west river campgrounds but it compensates with the direct water access. This park has canoe rents and short hiking trails. Washrooms were clean and out of three showers only one worked. Overall i enjoyed my short stay at the campground :)

LOVED camping at Driftwood Provincial Park! Site was average size but backed onto the forest so felt pretty private! Nice big beach for swimming or kayaking. Pretty small general store so don’t rely on that for any essentials (you can buy firewood). Although Deep River is only 30 mins away if you’re in a pinch. Bathrooms were the cleanest I have experienced so far at a provincial park! Best thing though was of course the view; it couldn’t be beat and there are many access points to get down to the water and enjoy it:) Overall a nice, quiet (in comparison) park with beautiful views.

Visited for first time last week and we loved it. Beautiful campground with lots of hiking trails varying in length depending on your mood. We combined several trails to give us a 7km hike that took around 2hrs. Note, the trail on the west side of the park isn't well marked, sections are overgrown, and the park map doesnt correspond with the actual trail. For instance the .5 km out and back trail has a loop that's not on the map which connects to another trail not on the map either. We got turned around as a result and had to retrace our steps. Park staff need to address this.

A nice park with a lot of waterfront sites. Some sites are not very private as there are a lack of bushes and trees between them in some areas. We were on site 32 of East camp. Hard to walk into the water here because of all the driftwood on shore. If looking at the water, the left side is not private but the right side is. The best waterfront sites in East camp are 7, 8, 9, 13, and 14 (in my humble opinion). They have a beach and are pretty level. We had a blue-green algae warning and saw the shoreline along the park had a lot of it our first day. The next 2 days it was gone. There is a lot of extra parking near most of the sites so if you have a boat there is plenty of room to park your boat trailer. You can even anchor in front of your site which was pretty neat. The comfort station is clean and has showers and laundry. The secondary toilet huts are flush toilets which is nice. No lights inside though so bring a flashlight.
