Duck Mountain

Overview

Duck Mountain Provincial Park, located near Kamsack, Saskatchewan, offers a distinct departure from the flat prairie landscape. This park is defined by the lush boreal forest and rolling upland terrain that characterizes the Manitoba Escarpment. Often referred to as the highlands of the prairies, it provides a refreshing environment for RVers seeking a mix of deep woods and pristine water. The park is an expansive natural sanctuary that balances developed recreation with rugged wilderness preservation.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in eastern Saskatchewan along the Manitoba border, the park is just a short drive from the community of Kamsack. The landscape is dominated by Madge Lake, a sparkling body of water that serves as the central hub for most visitor activity. The surrounding environment is a mosaic of aspen and spruce forests, providing significant shade and natural privacy for campers. The elevation changes in this region create a unique microclimate that feels significantly different from the open plains nearby.

Amenities & Park Features

The park accommodates RVers with several well-maintained campgrounds, including Minister’s Ridge and Poplar, which offer a variety of hookup options. Travelers can find sites with full hookups or choose from numerous electrical-only spots that cater to different rig sizes. On-site facilities include modern washrooms, laundry services, and conveniently located sani-dump stations. Most RV pads are nestled within the trees, providing a rustic feel while maintaining access to essential comforts like fire pits and picnic tables.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. The Duck Mountain Golf Course is a popular 18-hole facility carved directly into the forest, offering a challenging game for golfers of all levels. Hikers can explore an extensive trail system, including the scenic Pelly Point Trail, while the lake is perfect for fishing and boating. During the summer months, the sandy beaches at Madge Lake are a favorite spot for swimming and lakeside picnics.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for active families and nature enthusiasts who appreciate a diverse range of outdoor activities. Because of its large, shaded sites and extensive trail system, it is also a perfect fit for those traveling with pets. Stayed here last minute due to work. I’ll be honest I was hesitant to stay there because I was judging the book by the cover. I thought it was going to be run down and dirty. I was pleasantly surprised to find the rooms were very clean and comfortable. I believe the price was a little high at $120 a night. I would’ve liked to see it $20-$30 cheaper. Even though walks are concrete blocks sound posed through them easily or my neighbors were just really loud talkers. I could almost make out their conversations. When they stepped out for smoke breaks I could 100% make out their conversations like I was apart of it and their smoke smell flooded my room like they were smoking inside my room BUT once quiet hour kicked in it was quite and I had a good sleep. Wifi was very good, I was able to stream movies flawlessly. Would stay again.

Great place to stay. The motel is older but the rooms were exceptionally clean and well kept. Booking was easy and staff were readily available and very helpful.

This little gem in Kamsack is as shiny as they come. The room was clean, I mean CLEAN!! Carpets, beds, bathroom, all excellent. Hot water, good pressure, fresh towels. Can't find a negative thing to say. Also close to the restaurants for food. Good job Duck Mountain Motel. Five out of five, will stay again.

I hardly ever write reviews but I thought they need a thumbs up for the wonderfully clean rooms they have. The bathroom was sparkling clean... the bed sheets smelled refreshing. It's a smaller room then most but suited us well and I would sooner have a smaller, clean room than a large, dirty one. Thanks for the comfortable stay!
