Horrific. Won't be back. 2 reasons. 1) Campground has been decimated by IN Governor Braun selling off most of it's lands to suburban home developers, which literally ends at the steps of the campground. Construction noises constantly. Access to beach dunes is now cut off. No longer allowed to hike through to beach access, bc it's all neighborhoods now. Must get in car and drive to be allowed to use a tiny area of the beach where's there's parking. 90% of national lands are GONE. Almost all homes now. 2) Charlene is horrific, calls police on legit campers, after she harasses us, interrogates us, and seems like she has early onset of something neurological. I booked online via recreation.gov website, as per the usual, late at night 8pmish. I took one day....ONE DAY....off from the city and my 4 jobs....just to get some peace and quiet for a cheap $25 spot, with zero privacy, sewer or electric, slept in my car, rained all night (so peaceful), and made roaster coffee the next morning in the rain. At 11am, went to shower and restrooms where guys were cleaning. I finish my shower at 1130am and sat in my car flossing, qtips in ears, and brushing my hair.....and here comes Charlene on the golf cart, made a beeline after coming out of showers, blocked my car into the parking space, peppered me with psych-tic cr-zy questions that had nothing to do with me, demanded my lot # and why I was here. I briefly answered her questions, pulled back down to my spot 36, AND SHE FOLLOWED ME, sat in front of me again, writing down notes and my LP. Both convos caught on my car dashcams! I tell her to go away and leave me alone and she's just writing. 3 mins later, here comes the cops!!! Black police SUV pulls up to my spot 36. She encounters them and then waves them on. I drove to the office to see if there was somebody else to help me. Nope. But lots of psych-tic, written, confusing signs all over the office window. I did nothing wrong, got harassed and cops called. One day to rest :(

Campsites are close together, but with enough foliage in between to feel relatively isolated. Each space on Mather had a space to park, a place for setting up a tent, a picnic table, and a fire pit. The ADA spaces are especially considerate, with enough space to exit a vehicle, paved path to the bathroom, and a raised firepit. Bathrooms are generally pretty clean, and there are also showers, an outdoor sink, and a bottle filling station. Firewood is $10 and can be purchased on the way in, ice, ice cream, and other conveniences can be found at the gas station across the street from the entrance.

A lovely campground situated close to the dunes. Large campsites spaced apart. Since there is no electricity at the sites, it was dark and quiet--very peaceful. It is between two sets of train tracks, so you will hear those plus some road noise from the interstate. Mostly tent and small trailers. Felt very safe. Need a National Park pass to camp there.

No electric hook ups, so if your camper needs a hook up to run the AC, bring a generator(that you can only run till 10) or prepare to go without. Also the tracks are near by, you can hear the train horn, not the closest I have ever camp to railroad tracks, but for others it might be too hard to sleep. All the spots are very shaded. The shower house has private shower rooms with a lot of hot water, you might have to share a shower with a spider or Daddy Long Legs. Over all a good campground, if it had electric hookups I would even call it great.

We have been driving or pulling some sort of camping set up for over 25 years. We've stayed in private, state and federal campgrounds all over the country and in most states.. Recently, we had the pleasure of staying at Dunewood Campground. This campground was peaceful and never felt crowded, even though a walk around showed it was nearly full. The bathrooms were clean, had hot water, and even a filtered water dispenser. The location is excellent. It's just a short drive to the national park, restaurants, a liquor store, and a gas station. Our campsite had plenty of space and offered good privacy—our neighbors weren’t right on top of us. While we occasionally heard a distant train horn, the sounds of nature usually masked it. One of the highlights of our stay was being visited by several wild turkeys at our site. All in all, it was a very enjoyable stay, and we’d definitely come back.

Good campground in the national park. No electricity, but they had the typical fire pit, picnic table and lantern hook. The bathrooms and showers were clean. Best yet, I had great cell phone reception with Google Fi.

The bathrooms are very clean. The whole area was well equipped with a bottle refill station and a large dishwashing sink. Campsites are secluded, there's enough trees between each site that you get some privacy. Definitely bring bug spray though, still lots of mosquitoes there in mid September. I'm not sure how it compares to the state run campground in terms of amenities. At $25/night with no entrance fee, Dunewood is cheaper if you're coming from out of state. Solid location - Beverly Shores town is right across the train tracks and the trails over there are lovely. The campsite's proximity to stores is nice for first time campers. There is a gas station, a general store/bike shop, and a small restaurant on Broadway st just outside the camp, all of which are accessible on foot/bike. The South Shore Line station at Beverly Shores is within walking distance, so one could even "backpack" in from Chicago! However the Beverly Shores station does not allow bikes so bike campers would have to get off at Dune Park and ride a couple miles on the Calumet Trail.

We stayed about 2 years ago with our 24yr. old son and his friend. We loved it so much we came back 2 years later with my mom . She loved it a lot . Took it off her bucket list at 75 yrs. old. The camp was beautiful the host at the time was wonderful to us . Will be back again only sooner . Loved being so close to the lake and dunes. Stayed 8/29/21 - 9/3/21

This campground was clean and situated very close to the dune beaches. As others have mentioned, campsites 55-67 are sites that you need to walk to from the parking lot. Serious point though, this is the loudest campsite I have ever been to. You will constantly hear trains nearby throughout the night. You will also hear road traffic up until about midnight. Did not sleep well. Only stayed one night on a Tuesday.

Great campsite, bathrooms and showers with water refilling options. Fairly quiet especially after 10pm. We called for information to double check about how to check in or out and it was very easy with the reservation system. If you have questions call the number given on your reservation, the rangers were incredibly helpful! Set up your tent or bring your rv and enjoy the beautiful trees and night sky!
