Dunnet Regional Park

Overview

Dunnet Regional Park offers a refreshing escape nestled within the lush valley of Avonlea Creek. Unlike the wide-open prairies that surround it, this park is characterized by its abundant mature trees and sheltered atmosphere. Established as a community hub, it provides a tranquil setting for RV travelers looking to experience the natural beauty of south-central Saskatchewan in a well-maintained, welcoming environment that feels like a hidden prairie oasis.

Location & Surroundings

Located just a few kilometers southeast of Avonlea, SK, the park sits within a deeply carved valley that provides natural protection from the wind. The surrounding landscape features the rolling terrain of the Dirt Hills and the nearby Avonlea Reservoir. This unique geography creates a distinct microclimate, making the park feel secluded and private while remaining easily accessible for those touring the southern part of the province.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped for modern RVers, offering over 115 campsites with varying levels of service. Guests can take advantage of the junior Olympic-sized heated pool, which serves as a central gathering point during the summer months. Other notable features include:

  • Individual electrical hookups for most sites
  • A challenging mini-golf course and multiple playgrounds
  • Clean washroom facilities with hot showers and a laundry room
  • A convenient RV sewage disposal station

Many sites provide significant shade and privacy due to the dense canopy of trees throughout the campground, ensuring a comfortable stay even during peak summer heat.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure awaits just outside the park gates at the Avonlea Badlands, where guided tours reveal ancient geological formations and fossil beds. For those who enjoy the water, the reservoir is perfect for boating and fishing for walleye or pike. History enthusiasts should visit the local heritage museum, while golfers can enjoy a round at the community nine-hole course located conveniently close to the park entrance. The area is also a prime spot for birdwatching and photography.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for families and multi-generational groups seeking a traditional summer camping experience with plenty of activities to keep children entertained. It also appeals to nature lovers and hikers who want to explore the rugged beauty of the nearby Badlands while having a comfortable, serviced base camp to return to each evening. If you value a community-oriented vibe and lush greenery, Dunnet Regional Park is a perfect fit for your itinerary.

Wonderful gem of a park. The facilities are close together and make for a great day trip. Concession and pool are nice. The mini-golf is nicely shaded and well-maintained. The hiking trail along the creek is lovely. Would definitely visit again!

As always had an amazing week stay at Dunnet. The staff in all departments do such a wonderful job. The food from the booth was delicious every time. A sign to the beach area may help new campers find the spot easier. Watson Reservoir never disappoints when you want to catch a fish or 2.

Pros: Awesome pool and concession area, North campground was tree covered and very peaceful, decent showers/bathrooms, close to the city Cons: Seasonal campground attendants seem to think this is their home and land and are not welcoming. Dogs are allowed but it is very difficult due to seasonal campgrounds hating dogs. Also gets very muddy when it rains a little

Very beautiful camp grounds. Spotlessly clean washroom/shower facilities too! Lots of beautiful mature trees everywhere which offer shelter from the wind and shade on hot days! Campsites are very close together so not much privacy. Roadways are very narrow and rough so it makes it challenging to back in an RV easily. Looking forward to checking out the lake/beach area tomorrow. Discovered there is no beach just a nice dock.

Saskatchewan never ceases to amaze me. I was honestly getting discouraged on my drive to the park. The drive is quite far south from Highway 1, and the roads are not the best if you come from the west. If you come from the east, you can get to Regina and head south. That's the better route. There are many amenities withing the park, trails and fishing nearby; I only stayed for 1 night as I was passing through, my night was interrupted at 3am when my neighbors got into a fight over a lamp. But that's part of camping. It's a long drive, so make sure you've got enough gas and come with enough time to explore.
