Eaton County Fairgrounds
Overview
The Eaton County Fairgrounds offers a functional and spacious camping experience located in Charlotte, Michigan. While primarily known for hosting the annual county fair, the grounds provide a reliable seasonal campground for travelers exploring the mid-Michigan region. It serves as a practical base for those attending local events or passing through the area. The atmosphere is open and straightforward, reflecting the classic fairground aesthetic that many RVers appreciate for its ease of access and no-frills utility.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just south of downtown Charlotte, the park is conveniently located near the intersection of I-69 and M-50. This makes it an ideal stop for those traveling between Lansing and Battle Creek. The surrounding area features lush Michigan landscapes and small-town charm. Its proximity to historic downtown Charlotte allows visitors to easily access local hardware stores, groceries, and charming diners, ensuring all essential needs are met within a short drive from the campsite.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground provides several sites equipped with water and electrical hookups, supporting both 30-amp and 50-amp service. While the sites are mostly grassy and level, the fairgrounds offer a layout that accommodates larger rigs with ease. Key features include:
- Reliable 30 and 50-amp electrical service
- On-site dump station for waste management
- Accessible water hookups at various locations
Because it is a fairground, travelers can expect basic facilities rather than resort-style luxuries, focusing instead on reliable utility hookups and providing plenty of room for maneuvering heavy equipment or large trailers.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Visitors can explore the natural beauty of Bennett Park, which offers scenic walking trails and picnic areas just minutes away. History enthusiasts might enjoy the architecture of the Eaton County Courthouse or attending the lively Charlotte Frontier Days festival. For those willing to drive a bit further, the state capital of Lansing is a short trip north, offering museums and botanical gardens. The fairgrounds themselves host various equine events and motor sports throughout the summer months.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who prioritize space and location over luxury amenities. It is a perfect fit for those attending livestock shows, 4-H events, or local festivals held on the grounds. Big-rig owners will appreciate the open maneuvering room often lacking in heavily wooded private parks. If you are looking for a quiet, budget-friendly stopover while transiting through Michigan, the Eaton County Fairgrounds provides exactly what you need for a restful night.

At the time we came, no fair going on. Beautiful quiet fairgrounds W/E, dump site nearby. Green pull thru grassy sites. Love love love. Host was a lovely lady.
