Eau Galle Lake - COE/Highland Ridge
Overview
Highland Ridge Campground, managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, offers a serene escape into the lush woodlands of Western Wisconsin. Situated near the small town of Spring Valley, this park provides a classic camping experience centered around the scenic Eau Galle Lake. Travelers often seek out this location for its well-maintained grounds and the peaceful atmosphere that only a COE park can provide, making it a staple for regional RVers looking for a natural retreat.
Location & Surroundings
The park is nestled within the driftless region, characterized by its rolling hills and deep river valleys. Highland Ridge sits on a high bluff overlooking the lake, surrounded by dense hardwoods that provide ample shade and privacy between sites. The landscape transitions from groomed parkland to rugged forest, offering a diverse backdrop for those who enjoy the changing seasons. The nearby Eau Galle River adds to the tranquil environment, creating a secluded feel despite being easily accessible from local highways.
Amenities & Park Features
RVers will find spacious sites equipped with 30 and 50-amp electric hookups. While individual sewer hookups are not available at the sites, the park provides a convenient dump station and fresh water fill-up points. Facilities include:
- Modern shower houses and well-maintained vault toilets.
- A large playground and swimming beach access nearby.
- A dedicated equestrian loop for horse campers.
Multiple boat launches are also located within the larger recreational area to assist with water access, ensuring that those traveling with watercraft have everything they need for a day on the lake.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is Eau Galle Lake, where visitors spend days fishing for panfish and bass or paddling kayaks along the quiet shoreline. For a change of scenery, Crystal Cave is just a short drive away, offering underground tours of Wisconsin’s longest cave system. Hikers can explore several miles of wooded trails, including the Main Trail and Sunset Trail. The surrounding Pierce County countryside is also perfect for scenic drives through charming small towns and local farmland.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for nature-focused travelers who prefer a rustic, quiet setting over a commercial resort. It is perfect for families looking for an affordable outdoor getaway and boaters who want easy access to the water. Because of the dedicated horse trails, it is also a premier destination for equestrian campers. If you value privacy, star-filled nights, and the sounds of the forest, Highland Ridge is a fantastic choice for your next Wisconsin adventure.

Very clean campground. Our second time going here and will go back. Free showers. Didn't use them, so not sure how they are. Bathroom was clean. Staff we interacted with were very nice. No store or anything on site, so make sure you have everything you need. No water on sites but can fill your tank at a couple different areas.

Tent camped here with my 3 young kids and had a great time. The sites are beautiful and clean, there's a playground on site and hiking trails.

A very nice little wooded campground nestled in amongst the pine trees with a beautiful reservoir close by. Great little hiking and equestrian trails to wander. And a big playground for the kids.

Loved this campground. We were right next to the bathroom, and it did not smell. Very nicely kept and cleaned park. Dog friendly, though it gets annoying with all the baking and dog related noises. Not everyone is a dog owner or lover. We all have our own choices. The woods are beautiful, and there are walking and horseback paths around. We saw plenty of nice bugs, including giant swallowtail and sphinx moths. The beach is across the lake, which is kind of a really long drive away (7.5 miles). Spring Valley is nearby and you can get things at the Butchery shop or dollar store incase you underpacked. Overall, we had a great experience here and plan to go back sometime. Oh, the woods are very nice and thick. It was 85 degrees out in the sun but about 73 in the park where the sunshine doesn't hit the ground very hard. We almost thought it was night time at noon with his dark it was in the camper (on a sunny day). Local people also sell a plethora of wood along the road so there is no shortage of campfire wood.

We stayed 3 days at this campground. We're from Missouri so I chose it based on reviews and I'm glad we did! The restrooms and showers are very nice, great water pressure and good hot water. There's plenty of water spickets scattered around. There's a nice playground the grandkids loved. They said that was their favorite part of the camping trip! There's a beach to use, it's about a 15 minute drive and there's no dogs allowed at the beach. This was something that wasn't mentioned when I looked through reviews. The camp hosts are WONDERFUL! We had trouble with our truck while we were there but the hosts have a son with a diesel shop so my husband was able to replace the injector at the camp site and the host's son came by with his computer to program it! We were at campsite E. Water on one side and the bathrooms just about 300 steps to the other side by the playground. There are activities with the park rangers! On Saturday, we took a night trail walk with glow sticks! The park rangers had lots to teach the group about the forest and the reservoir. The sites are spread out and they're all wooded so no problem to hang clothesline or hammocks. They are very small gravel, so way better for bugs than grassy sites. Some of the rocks are magnetic, bring a magnet and see! There's a picnic table and a fire pit with a grill at each site. You do not need a pass at this campground like so many in Wisconsin. Our site was $20 per night. Well worth it! We will certainly stay again!
