Echo Canyon

Overview

Echo Canyon State Park is a hidden gem tucked away in the rugged landscape of eastern Nevada. Centered around a shimmering **65-acre reservoir**, this park offers a refreshing contrast to the surrounding high desert terrain. Travelers visiting this destination will find a peaceful atmosphere where the sounds of nature replace the hum of city life, making it a premier choice for those seeking a quiet retreat into the wilderness.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 12 miles from the historic mining town of Pioche, NV, the park sits at an elevation of 5,200 feet. This higher altitude provides **cooler summer temperatures**, making it an inviting escape during the warmer months. The site is characterized by massive rock formations and the scenic Eagle Valley, where the canyon walls transition from deep volcanic hues to the vibrant greens of native riparian vegetation near the water's edge.

Amenities & Park Features

The park caters well to modern travelers with a variety of camping options. The main campground includes **20 sites with full hookups**, providing water, sewer, and electrical connections for larger rigs. For those preferring a more traditional experience, dry camping sites are also available. Essential facilities such as **flush toilets and hot showers** are well-maintained. A dedicated boat launch and several shaded picnic areas ensure visitors can fully enjoy the lakeside setting.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water enthusiasts can enjoy fishing for rainbow trout and largemouth bass, while hikers should not miss the **Ash Canyon Trail**. This path leads through unique geological formations and offers stunning panoramic views. Beyond the park, the legendary town of Pioche provides a rich history of the **Old West**, including museums and historic structures. Additionally, the surreal clay cathedrals of Cathedral Gorge State Park are located just a short drive away.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for **outdoor adventurers and birdwatchers** who appreciate a slower pace of travel. It is a fantastic fit for RVers who want the convenience of full hookups in a remote, scenic environment. If you enjoy **stargazing and canyon exploration** without the heavy crowds found at national parks, Echo Canyon provides the perfect balance of solitude and natural beauty for your next Nevada road trip.

Drove through while in the area to check out for a potential stay. A good bit of the sites looked quite small. Peaceful area but not really close too much. Beautiful location in the canyon is a very scenic drive! Best for longer RV: 15, 18, 2.

This area is beautiful and has become one of our favorite areas to stop and camp. There are a lot of outdoor activities all around the area, and we enjoy both hiking and driving the many features around the canyon. Even if you're just passing through, it's a very relaxing and peaceful area to stop for the evening. Like the other State Park's in the area, they have done a GREAT job upgrading/maintaining this parcel. Thank you, State of Nevada! Campgrounds are clean and have payment kiosks if needed. As of Sep 2024, Echo Canyon Reservoir has water in it and thankfully is looking healthier than just a few short years ago. The RV campground is nicely laid out and has large 1-way pull throughs with covered patios and concrete picnic tables. We will definitely be back again and can't wait to keep exploring up the canyon! -Mojo Mojo.Adventures / YouTube

Beautiful campground with amazing campsites and clean bathrooms. Each campsite has a grill, a fire pit, a spigot, and a shaded picnic table with plenty of room for a car and 1 tent for most. There is a wood donation area but plan to bring your own firewood and no showers are available that I could see. The tree cover is sparse, especially in some campsites with 1 tree, so expect more of a desert landscape and the reservoir is only good for fishing, do not expect to go for a swim. It is a very nice campsite with amazing amenities including drinking water, a drainage for RVs, and surprisingly clean bathrooms with running water. Unfortunately there are not many trails nearby within walking distance but there are a lot of things to explore within a 15 minute drive such as cathedral gorge. Overall a great experience!
