Eisenhower
Overview
Eisenhower State Park sits on the rugged bluffs overlooking the sprawling Lake Texoma in North Texas. Spanning over 420 acres of diverse landscape, this park offers a mix of high-energy recreation and peaceful nature, making it a staple for regional travelers. It balances its historical namesake with modern outdoor amenities, providing a serene escape and a welcoming environment for visitors traveling through the Red River valley area near the Oklahoma border.
Location & Surroundings
Located just northwest of Denison, the park is defined by its striking limestone cliffs and rocky shorelines. Unlike the flat prairies often associated with North Texas, this area features rolling hills and dense woodlands. The proximity to the water means visitors enjoy views of the expansive lake where the horizon creates a unique coastal-like atmosphere in the middle of the country, surrounded by native cedar and oak trees that provide ample shade for campsites.
Amenities & Park Features
RVers can choose from several distinct camping loops, including the Ammonite and Deer Haven areas which offer electricity and water. For those seeking maximum convenience, the park provides sites with full hookups including sewer. The park is well-equipped with modern restrooms and hot showers. Key facilities include:
- Access to a lighted fishing pier for night anglers.
- Dedicated ATV and OHV trails for off-road enthusiasts.
- A protected swimming cove located away from heavy boat traffic.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is a massive draw here, specifically for the famous striped bass found in the deep waters of Lake Texoma. On land, hikers can explore several miles of trails, including the scenic Ike's Hike and Bike Trail, which winds through rocky terrain and offers panoramic lake vistas. Just a short drive away, travelers can visit the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site in downtown Denison or explore the local boutiques and dining options in the city's charming historic district.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal destination for active families and water enthusiasts who enjoy boating, kayaking, or fishing. Because of its varied terrain and specialized off-road areas, it also appeals to OHV riders and mountain bikers looking for a rugged challenge. It serves as a perfect multi-day retreat for RVers seeking a nature-focused experience with high-quality facilities while staying within a short drive of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

We love the camping spot 179 on the cliff overlooking the lake. We also reserved Ike’s cabin but we actually bivouac . It was a beautiful moon and not too cold. No electricity at this spot. Went down to check out the cave in the morning. Cabin is older. Has two bunkbeds, microwave and a refrigerator. Also a window unit. Someone had smoked inside so we just preferred to camp out.

Nice park with a lot of trails. Excellent place for camping and hiking. Lake views are beautiful but I feel that Lake Texoma offers better views within a short drive. Clean restrooms around the park. Swimming area was closed when we went hence do not know what it feels like to be in that area. The trails are shady and comfortable to hike.

We had a great time here. Well maintained with fresh paved sites. Highlight was the beach. Playground is actually just a swing. Fishing pier is very nice though we didn’t catch anything.

Very nice park! We stayed in site 23. Our pickup and travel trailer both fut on the pad. There was water and electricity and a very nice pick nick table and fire pit. A trail led to the water. New bathrooms are coming soon and look amazing. Would definitely recommend this park!
