A tiny hollow tucked along Hwy 50 just below Kyburz at 3,900' elevation this hidden gem offers campsites along the South Fork of the American River. The preferred sites are the ones right on the river farthest away from Hwy 50 which is literally a rocks throw from the Campground. Managed by Royal Elks it's $36/night 1st come first serve. 1/2 ,off discount passes accepted. Heard alot of gun target shooting and there's a dirt road that takes you up into the forest but not sure where or how far it goes. An aquifer canal flows on the west side of the river which I was told feeds Placetbille needs. No trails to wander much so sort of stuck in your little sandy flat area. Good little spot though to hear the water and get in some small wild Rainbows.

We took a random camping trip this past weekend and found a favorite campsite to add to our list. It's a smaller campsite with really clean bathrooms. The camp hosts are absolutely amazing. They were so welcoming when we arrived and took my boyfriend on a tour of the grounds. We stayed from Friday to Monday. Even though Highway 50 is very close, all the other great finds on the campground make the stay worth while.

Aesthetically pleasing. Beautiful view of the river. As the river's water flow decreases the road noise is more apparent and irritating. Some sites have so much litter I feel like I'm staying in a garbage dump.

It wasn't too bad, other than being right next to the highway and the lack of shade and water access. You're right near a stream with rapids. But to get down to it, you either have to walk really far or climb down big rocks. And either way, there are a good amount of boulders to climb on in and out of the water. If that's your thing, then definitely check it out. If you perfer being able to walk into the water and have your stuff on flat land, check out another place. The people who manage it are extremely nice and check on the camp grounds throughout the day.

Super nice campground that is clean and well kept. Beautiful creek and super kind camp host. It is $36 for a single camp site.
