Eleven Mile
Overview
Eleven Mile State Park is a premier destination for travelers seeking the vast open spaces of Colorado's high plains. Located near Lake George, this park is anchored by a 3,400-acre reservoir known for its legendary fishing and stunning mountain backdrops. Visitors come here to disconnect and immerse themselves in a landscape defined by rolling grasslands and dramatic granite rock formations. It provides a peaceful retreat for RVers who prioritize natural beauty and quiet nights over resort-style luxuries.
Location & Surroundings
Situated at an elevation of approximately 8,600 feet, the park occupies a unique position in the South Park basin. The environment is characterized by wide-open vistas and frequent winds, offering a true high-country experience. The surrounding area is a haven for wildlife, where it is common to spot pronghorn, elk, and coyotes roaming the plains. The lack of light pollution makes the park an exceptional spot for stargazing once the sun dips behind the distant peaks.
Amenities & Park Features
The park provides several camping loops suitable for RVs, with the Rocky Ridge Campground offering electrical hookups in select loops. While the park maintains a rustic atmosphere, essential facilities include on-site dump stations, fresh water fill stations, and seasonal shower houses. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, encouraging outdoor living. It is important to note that most sites are electric-only, so coming prepared with a full water tank is recommended for extended stays.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water-based recreation is the primary draw, with the reservoir holding Gold Medal status for its abundance of trophy-sized trout and northern pike. Beyond the water, the park features over five miles of scenic trails for hiking and mountain biking. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument or the world-class fly fishing sections of the South Platte River. The nearby Dream Stream is a must-visit location for serious fly anglers.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for avid anglers and boaters who want direct access to some of the best fishing in the state. It also appeals to self-contained RVers who appreciate a quiet, wind-swept landscape and the absence of highway noise. If you enjoy nature photography or wildlife viewing, the park’s diverse ecosystem provides endless opportunities. It is best suited for travelers who value the raw serenity of the Colorado wilderness over modern commercial amenities.

We stayed here in May 2021 and of course, it snowed :). Colorado weather! The RV park is very clean, and we really enjoyed how close we were to the water while also having amazing views of the land around us. The prices are reasonable, just keep in mind on top of the spot fee you are also paying a fee for EACH vehicle. We didn't think about that. And be mindful of the road leading out to Lake George....definitely could use some repaving! So, go slow!

Nice park in general. The only reason I'm docking the score is the taste of the water. There seems to be an issue with this state's water. Everything tastes horrid. This was the one area where it was somewhat edible. Tasted like dirty fungus.

Beautiful campground in a simply gorgeous area. Be ware - there are no full service spots, only electric or primitive spots but there is a water fill station and a dump station. Plenty of hiking and fishing spots and there was quite a bit of boating going on. I just wish we were allowed to swim in the reservoir! We very much enjoyed our stay and are happy to have found this gem, we will definitely be going back again.

Last minute plans to go camping and it couldn't have been better! We got 3 sites together. We had family and friends come out. We got to take our dog. The weather was great and only rained for a short time each evening. So much fun that we are going to go back on Labor Day weekend. The campsite is always clean. The General Store keeps convenient hours and the staff there so friendly. The scenery is gorgeous and once the rain clears in the evening, the beautiful starry sky is amazing to see! Highly recommend this little gem....an hour and a half from home and never disappointing!

No shade. No trees. No swimming in lake. Very disappointed. Very few signs so it was hard to know where to go. You have to pay $9/day for a vehicle on top of your camping reservation.
