Elmore

Overview

Nestled at the base of Mount Elmore, this park is frequently referred to as The Beauty Spot of Vermont. It provides a peaceful, rustic escape for RVers who prioritize natural scenery and a quiet atmosphere over luxury resort features. Established in 1936, the park has been a beloved destination for generations of campers looking to disconnect from the modern world. The park spans over 700 acres, surrounding the northern end of Lake Elmore, offering a quintessential New England state park experience where the sounds of the forest take precedence over highway noise.

Location & Surroundings

The park is located in the town of Elmore, just south of Morrisville on Route 12. Its centerpiece is the pristine 219-acre lake, which is flanked by the looming presence of Mount Elmore. The landscape is characterized by dense hardwood forests that turn vibrant colors in the autumn. The area is particularly quiet, making it a sanctuary for local wildlife and those seeking a respite from urban life. It serves as a perfect base for exploring the Lamoille Valley, offering a mix of mountainous terrain and tranquil waterfront views.

Amenities & Park Features

Elmore offers a classic state park camping experience with 44 tent/RV sites and 15 lean-tos. While there are no water or electric hookups available at the individual sites, the park provides well-maintained restrooms with hot coin-operated showers for guest use. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table for traditional outdoor cooking. RVers will find a dump station near the park entrance for convenience. The park also features a large sandy beach, a historic beach house with a snack bar, and boat rentals including kayaks and canoes.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can tackle the hike up Mount Elmore, which leads to a fire tower offering panoramic views of the Green Mountains and the surrounding valley. The lake is popular for swimming, fishing, and paddling during the summer months. A short drive takes you to the famous town of Stowe, which is known for its world-class breweries, local shops, and alpine scenery. Additionally, the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail is nearby, providing miles of level ground for cycling or walking through the scenic Vermont countryside.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for boondocking enthusiasts and owners of smaller RVs who enjoy a back-to-basics lifestyle in the great outdoors. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a safe, water-centric summer vacation or couples seeking a quiet retreat. EDIT: if you have any questions, review the Vermont State Parks website for details, and call the Park directly to speak with staff during the operating season. Elmore State Park offers a charming blend of overnight camping, a day-use area by the lake, and scenic hiking opportunities. To access the lake and hiking trails, a day-use fee is required, and the hours are from 10 AM until the official sunset. The campground gate remains open throughout the season, allowing campers the freedom to come and go as they please.

The site I had was small and torn up a bit. Close proximity to neighbor so privacy was limited. If you are an out-of-stater the value isn't there for the price. No cell reception or wifi. Will have to drive 10-minutes into town to grab reception.

Beautiful spot but water is very murky and shallow. Lots of sharp and nasty feeling things you step on in the water. My daughter cut her foot open on a clam shell. No trash receptacles. Staff was rude.

Wonderful location and friendly staff! Beautiful views of a ton of different types of trees and a gorgeous view of the lake. Had a quiet spot close to the restrooms and free fill up water. Cell phone service signal is really bad here so make sure you bring a Wi-Fi Box or a Cellphone booster, other than that our experience was incredible, parking for our VanLife RV Van was Spacious. We will definitely be back and tell others about this place too.

We love camping here. Pretty quiet campground with one of the best state park beaches. There's some awesome hiking trails as well. A fun way to spend a weekend or a week!
