Emma Long Metropolitan Park

Overview

Emma Long Metropolitan Park serves as a premier outdoor destination for RVers visiting Central Texas. Managed by the City of Austin, this expansive park offers a rare opportunity to enjoy lakefront camping just a short drive from the state capital. Unlike typical suburban RV parks, this site emphasizes the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country, providing a serene escape for those who value scenic vistas and direct water access above all else.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on the shores of Lake Austin, the park is tucked away at the end of a winding road through rolling terrain. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dense oak and cedar trees, creating a secluded atmosphere despite being within the city limits. This waterfront setting offers campers views of the Colorado River, while the limestone bluffs typical of the region provide a dramatic backdrop for afternoon sunsets and morning wildlife viewing.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features 20 designated RV sites equipped with water and electrical hookups, supporting both 30-amp and 50-amp connections. While the amenities are more rustic than a high-end resort, visitors have access to essential facilities including restrooms with hot showers and a dump station. Recreational features are the highlight here, with multiple boat ramps, a dedicated swimming area with a sandy beach, and numerous picnic tables scattered under the shade of mature cypress trees.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the Turkey Creek Trail, a popular 2.8-mile loop located just outside the park entrance that is perfect for hiking with dogs. Within the park, activities center on the water, ranging from kayaking and paddleboarding to motorized boating. For a change of pace, the vibrant shops and restaurants of downtown Austin are roughly 25 minutes away, offering a perfect balance between wilderness and urban exploration.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for active travelers and boaters who want to be close to the water. Because of its scenic, slightly rugged nature, it is best suited for those who prefer a state-park-style environment over a paved RV resort. Families will enjoy the safe swimming areas and expansive green spaces, making it a top pick for local Austin getaways or travelers seeking a quiet basecamp for exploring the Hill Country.

Emma Long Metropolitan Park in Austin is a hidden gem for outdoor lovers. With its spacious lakeside views, shaded picnic spots, and scenic hiking and biking trails, it’s perfect for a relaxing day or weekend getaway. The park’s peaceful vibe, swimming areas, and camping options make it a great escape from the city’s hustle while still being close to downtown.

First time coming to this park. It's really pretty and pricing is fair. The water was nice and refreshing too much only critique would be the constant boats passing by, creating to many waves to be able to just relax in the water. Either way, I would still recommend going here

A. Well-maintained public access point to lake Austin. Whether it's for the day or the weekend, malong offers relaxing views in a natural environment. Lake Austin doesn't have a no wake rule, which has pluses and minuses. It means you can have jet skis delivered to your camp spot on the water and it means as a swimmer you have to be a little bit more cautious. I felt safe the whole time. I was swimming and it felt like the boats and other water goers were very sure to give swimmers a wide berth.

This place was ok. Nice but ok. Because it’s narrow, with all the jet ski and boats zooming by there are tons of waves depending on your mood that worse, that could be a good or bad thing. Also, the are no grills in the big grassy area before the lake so bring your own. There is plenty of space to grill and they table tables. The entrance to the lake- there is a small drop down after stepping over some branches and twines so young kids and less mobile adults may need some help up and down. There are restrooms and porta potties

It's a beautiful little get away location. We stayed just in front of bathrooms which were left lighted all night. The spot we did was only 1 night, no electricity hook up or water. Their RV locations have 3 or 4 spots where you are allowed to have tents. Nice fishing area and very clean, grass is well maintained.
