Eugene T Mahoney
Overview
Eugene T. Mahoney State Park serves as Nebraska's flagship destination for outdoor recreation. Located on the scenic bluffs of the Platte River, this park bridges the gap between a traditional camping experience and a modern resort. RVers will find a well-maintained environment that caters to those looking for an active getaway. Whether you are passing through the Midwest or planning a multi-day stay, the park offers a resort-style atmosphere that stands out within the state park system.
Location & Surroundings
Ideally positioned in Ashland, NE, the park sits midway between the state's two largest cities, Omaha and Lincoln. This makes it an accessible retreat for urban dwellers and cross-country travelers alike. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills and lush woodlands, offering a refreshing break from the surrounding plains. The proximity to Interstate 80 makes logistics simple for large rigs, yet the park remains quiet enough to feel like a true escape into nature.
Amenities & Park Features
The RV accommodations feature spacious hard-surfaced pads with electrical hookups suitable for various rig sizes. Visitors have access to modern shower houses, laundry facilities, and convenient dump stations located near the campground loops. Beyond the campsite, the park boasts an impressive Family Aquatic Center and a massive indoor activity hub. For those needing to stay connected, wireless internet is available in select common areas like the lodge, ensuring a balance of rustic living and modern convenience.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is never far away, with on-site options like the seventy-foot observation tower and seasonal melodrama performances at the theater. Just outside the park gates, you can explore the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum or drive through the Wildlife Safari Park to see elk and bison. For nature lovers, the extensive network of hiking and biking trails provides ample opportunity to explore the river bluffs. Fishing and paddle boating on the park's lakes are also popular pastimes.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for families who want a variety of activities to keep children entertained throughout their stay. It is also a perfect fit for social RVers who enjoy a bustling, community-focused environment with plenty of shared spaces. If you prefer a resort-style stay with diverse amenities over a secluded backcountry experience, Mahoney will meet your needs. It serves as an excellent home base for exploring the cultural and historical highlights of eastern Nebraska.

The park itself is wonderful! Very pretty and lots of family friendly things to do. We enjoyed the park. The cabins are not good. Very old and dirty. Ours hadn't been vacuumed or cleaned. The bathroom was gross and you wouldn't want to walk barefoot on the carpet. It was better than a tent, but definitely needs improvement.

We camped with full hookups, and appreciated the fresh water to fill our 5th wheel. The grandkids visited, and we enjoyed pedal boating, mini-golf, and fishing. Ate at the restaurant, and they had a burger, fries, and beer for $10.99. Can't beat that price..

We have rented a cabin for two days. The nature is beautiful. Lake view. The only concern is the lighting , total lack outside of the cabin and throughout the park. Also the cabin front door was all covered with spider nets. Otherwise it’s great for kids, there is a playground in a walking distance, horse riding etc

Nice amenities and enjoyed lodge until ants decided to invade and bite. Kids enjoyed climbing wall and water park, but we're disappointed with fishing.

We paid to get into the park just for this but it was worth it. We were coming back on vacation and thought it would be cool not knowing we would be granted access to the whole park that day for a very reasonable cost. We didn't have time to stay and check it all out but maybe next time!
