Fall Creek Falls

Overview

Fall Creek Falls State Park is a premier destination for RV travelers, spanning more than 29,000 acres across the rugged Cumberland Plateau. As one of Tennessee’s most visited state parks, it is centered around the magnificent 256-foot Fall Creek Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States. The park offers an immersive natural retreat where the sheer scale of the gorges and the lushness of the hardwood forests create a sense of awe. It serves as a comprehensive outdoor playground that balances raw wilderness with well-developed facilities for a seamless camping experience.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Spencer, TN, the park is nestled in a region defined by dramatic geological features and deep chasms. The surrounding landscape is a vibrant tapestry of cascades, streams, and virgin forests that change beautifully with the seasons. Because it is located on the plateau, the air is often cooler than the surrounding lowlands, providing a refreshing atmosphere for summer travelers. The winding park roads offer scenic vistas at every turn, leading visitors through a diverse ecosystem that feels both secluded and accessible from major Tennessee thoroughfares.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is exceptionally well-equipped for the RV community, offering 222 campsites across five different areas. Many of these sites are designed with full hookups, providing water, electricity, and sewer connections for modern rigs. Beyond the campsites, visitors have access to modern bathhouses, laundry facilities, and a dump station. For recreation within the park grounds, there is an Olympic-sized swimming pool open during the summer months, a large lake for fishing, and a Nature Center that provides fascinating insights into the local flora and fauna.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Activity is at the heart of the Fall Creek Falls experience, with over 56 miles of hiking trails available for exploration. The Cane Creek Cascades and the challenging Cable Trail are popular choices for those looking to see the water features up close. For a different perspective, the Canopy Challenge Course offers zip-lining and ropes obstacles through the treetops. Boating enthusiasts can rent canoes or paddleboats on the 345-acre park lake, while golfers can enjoy a round at the professionally designed 18-hole golf course located right on the property.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for active families and outdoor enthusiasts who want a variety of activities without leaving the campground. Its spacious layout and mix of pull-through and back-in sites make it particularly welcoming for big-rig owners who need reliable infrastructure. Whether you are a photographer looking to capture the mist of the falls or a hiker seeking a rugged backcountry challenge, Fall Creek Falls provides a versatile base camp that caters to both high-adventure seekers and those looking for a peaceful forest escape.

Great place for all ages and skill levels. You can go to the Nature Center and take paved paths and stairs to see the waterfalls and suspension bridge there if you don't want to hike at all. Same with the Fall Creek Falls overlook. If you want to hike a bit you can do the Piney Falls Overlook and suspension bridge. Don't miss those two. Well signed and a one way loop road for part makes the roadway less invasive.

Out of several state park in Tennessee I visited this one was my favorite! Its very accessible! Lots of amenities. Bathrooms are very nice for a park. Looks like they had ton of camping options. Being the shoulder season and rainy weather I was surprised at the amount of people there.

Beautiful park. Stunning views. Falls Creek waterfall wasn't flowing that well at our visit. Suspention bridge and view is amazing. Piney falls is hard to see but you can hear it. A few places to eat. Snack bar and cafe is a better choice than the restaurant at the resort. The resort restaurant is pricey for what you get. Long wait for 2 fish and fries: they definitely need to change the oil, our fish looked burnt, fries were not hot, 2 drinks from the bar were 25.00. We didn't complain, our server was great and did a good job. Another couple walked out after letting their server know they were still waiting after 30 minutes of ordering burgers and fries. The park overall is stunning.

First time at the park despite living only two hrs away. It was beautiful and id recommend it to anyone. I stayed one night at the lodge and agree with some reviews about the price being a bit high for the accommodations. The room didn't lack anything per se, and was nice, but the bed wasn't what id expect for that proce, comfort wise. There were extra blankets and the pillows were plentiful. The thermostat was a bit hard to figure out and there was a strange flashing light up by the ceiling.. smoke detector?

I would recommend that if you’re going just for the waterfalls to make sure you go after a good rain. Me, and my daughter went and the water flow wasn’t as pretty as what it could have been if we would have went another day. I do have to say that this park is one of the cleanest and prettiest I have been to. It was very well kept. They also have a swing bridge over one of the waterfalls and my daughter enjoyed that. They also have a shop and inside the shop there were park rangers doing educational classes which was my favorite experience. I would recommend going and checking this park out but would definitely wait until after a good rain.
