Falling Waters

Overview

Falling Waters State Park is a unique geological gem in the Florida Panhandle. Unlike the flat coastal plains usually associated with the state, this park features undulating hilly terrain and lush greenery. It is home to Florida’s highest waterfall, where a stream drops 73 feet into a cylindrical limestone sinkhole. Visitors enjoy a peaceful atmosphere, offering a glimpse into the natural history and distinctive topography of the region.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated just south of Chipley, FL, making it a convenient detour for travelers moving along the Interstate 10 corridor. The surroundings are characterized by high elevation ridges and deep, fern-draped sinkholes that create a shaded microclimate. The Pine Forest campground sits atop one of the highest hills in Florida, providing a quiet escape surrounded by towering longleaf pines and native hardwoods offering natural privacy.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground at this state park offers 24 spacious sites that can accommodate RVs and trailers. Each site is equipped with water and electric hookups providing both 30 and 50 amp service, along with a picnic table and a fire ring for evening campfires. Key features include:

  • A well-maintained bathhouse with hot showers and clean facilities.
  • A sandy swimming beach located at the two-acre onsite lake.
  • A convenient dump station for departing RV travelers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Nature enthusiasts should not miss the Sink Hole Trail, which offers views of several cavernous depressions. Beyond the park, visitors can explore the Seacrest Wolf Preserve for a rare wildlife experience or head into historic Chipley for local shopping. The proximity to Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna also allows for a weekend of subterranean exploration and cave tours within a very short driving distance.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature lovers and photographers who appreciate unique geological formations and quiet nights under the stars. Because the campground is smaller and more intimate than commercial parks, it is perfect for those seeking a serene outdoor retreat rather than a high-activity resort. It is a fantastic choice for families looking to explore Florida's diverse ecosystems or solo travelers needing a scenic and restful stopover while navigating the panhandle.

Great small park with campground . Clean and well kept. We stayed in site 4 . Easy to back into . 50 amp. Slight pitch to left side was overcome with leveling blocks. All good. Trails to the sink holes and falls are easy to navigate. The lake is down about 18" causing the falls to be minimal. We'll come back during rainy season to get the full effect.

This is beautiful little park packed with a lot of recreational activities and a nice campground ⛺️. Nature of course has to co-operate. They have had a recent dry spell so no flowing water. No falling water! The hike down to the observation area is still a beautiful hike , if a little tough on older knees. The park day use areas are open, but right now the lake is closed until they get some natural flow back to the ecosystem.

We just got back from camping there and we had the best time! We took our three kids 6 and under and they had a blast. The majority of people were in RV’s/campers but we took tents and it was still great. We didn’t know at the time but the tents have to be put up on the gravel which was no problem to move. The bathrooms and showers were VERY well taken care of and in a great and easy location to get to from our site. The trails are great and were easy for our kiddos, the playground close to the waterfall was so fun for them and there are many places to go and sit and have lunch. The whole State Park is very well taken care of! We are already looking forward to our next visit!

This is a beautiful park! When we went the waterfall wasnt fully flowing, but it was still a sight to see! The nature is beautiful and there are a lot of walking paths, plus a little beach. There's camping here but we just went for the day. Totally recommend this place!

Nice experience worth doing once. Cute little waterfall falling into a limestone-like cave. Sinkholes and butterfly gardens to see, too. $5 entry fee for the day. They were sold out of annual passes, unfortunately. Just a short 5-minute drive off the I-10 freeway. Hiking trails closed.
