Falls Reserve Conservation Area

Overview

Falls Reserve Conservation Area offers a serene escape on a 230-acre peninsula carved by the winding Maitland River. This natural destination is famous for its unique limestone waterfalls and terraced riverbed, providing a tranquil backdrop for RVers seeking a deep connection with the outdoors. The sound of rushing water over the rocky ledges creates a peaceful atmosphere that defines the camping experience here. Unlike commercial resorts, it prioritizes the preservation of the landscape while offering essential comforts for modern travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just outside the historic town of Goderich, ON, near the village of Benmiller, the park is nestled within a lush hardwood forest. The surrounding area is characterized by the dramatic cliffs of the Maitland River valley and the expansive sky of Huron County. Visitors benefit from being minutes away from Lake Huron’s Sunset Coast, where spectacular evening views and sandy beaches are easily accessible. The location perfectly balances the seclusion of a forest retreat with the convenience of nearby urban amenities.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides over 160 campsites, many of which feature electricity and water hookups capable of accommodating diverse RV setups. On-site facilities are designed for comfort and include the following:

  • Clean washrooms and hot showers
  • A centralized dump station for self-contained units
  • A stocked trout pond for easy-access fishing
  • Well-maintained hiking and nature trails

Families often appreciate the open green spaces and the playground, while the river itself serves as a natural swimming area during the warm summer months.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the park boundaries, travelers can explore the charming downtown of Goderich, often called Canada’s prettiest town. The historic octagonal town square is home to unique local boutiques and seasonal farmers' markets. History enthusiasts should not miss the Huron Historic Gaol or the Huron County Museum. For those who enjoy trekking, the Maitland Trail offers extensive paths through the river valley, while the local boardwalks along the lake provide the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll at dusk.

Who This Park Is Best For

This conservation area is ideal for nature enthusiasts and active families who prefer a scenic, rugged environment over a high-density resort experience. It is a fantastic choice for anglers and hikers who want immediate access to river fishing and forested paths. RVers looking for a peaceful, canopy-shaded retreat with generous spacing between sites will find Falls Reserve to be the perfect match for their travel style, especially those who enjoy birdwatching and landscape photography.

This conservation area has a lot to offer in a small space! There is a stocked fishing pond, a river to wade in or fish, a volley ball court and other playground equipment. The campgrounds were lovely with nicely cut grass and clean washrooms and showers in great shape. Would definitely come again next time I'm looking to camp near Goderich.

This place was beautiful. My family and I were at campsites #241, #240 close to the bathroom and access to the waterfalls. The bathrooms and shower were clean ! Had fun swimming at the falls. Bring a life jacket, or your floaties.

A great place to stay, many large hydro sites and a secluded tenting area. Quite crowded on weekends. Close proximity to Goderich and the beach. Washrooms and showers are well maintained and clean. The stocked pond seems empty later in the season, I’ve only ever caught a fish closer to opening day so far. Fishing at the falls is great but it’s usually crowded with swimmers. Dog friendly. The only downside for me is that the gate house closed at 8pm so make sure you get all wood and ice early.

My wife and I have stayed here on 3 separate occasions now. This is a beautiful park, and with their washroom upgrade its even more great. We will be back again next year. See you then.

A beautiful slice of Southern Ontario. The Maitland trail runs right through the park, as well as several other additional trails with park limits. The falls themselves are beautiful, and offer a unique fishing and swimming spot. The best time to visit is April and June, as I find low water levels in July and August can lead to less than ideal swimming conditions. Upgraded and clean washroom facilities are available for both day use and campers. I look forward to visiting every year!
