I recently visited Ferron Reservoir Campground for a Young Men’s camping trip, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The group site we stayed at was spacious and comfortable, perfect for gathering around the fire and enjoying the great outdoors. The reservoir itself was a highlight—it gave us plenty of opportunities to play, paddle board, and kayak. The water was definitely cold ❄️, but after a few seconds, it became refreshing and energizing. We even managed to catch a pretty decent-sized fish, which added to the adventure. The surrounding scenery is absolutely stunning. The sunsets over the water and hills were breathtaking and added the perfect ending to each day. 🌅 We didn’t see the camp hosts during our stay—maybe we just missed them—but they were clearly keeping things in check. One of the restrooms near our site ran out of toilet paper, but it was restocked later that same day, which we appreciated. Cell service is very limited, but in a good way. You can find a few sweet spots that get one or two bars, which is just enough to stay connected if needed—without getting sucked into endless scrolling. It let us stay present and enjoy the calm of nature. It’s also super dog-friendly. Our dog had a blast splashing around in the river, hanging out by the fire, and making friends with the neighbor pups. 🐕 The drive took me about 3.5 hours, but honestly, it was well worth it. The peace, fun, and memories made this trip something I’ll carry with me for a long time.

Such a special place! This campground is clean and well-attended. There are nicely maintained fire pits and picnic tables. Each spot has a good amount of shade. The reservoir is great for kayaking and fishing!

Tucked away high in the Manti Lasal mountains, Ferron Reservoir Campground is just lovely! The wildflowers were in full bloom during our stay and surround the reservoir and campground. The reservoir is a short walk from most of the campsites with some having lake views. Unlike many lakeside campgrounds, Ferron Reservoir was not windy at all, making kayaking really enjoyable. The water is so clear, and while we didn't fish, we saw some pretty decent sized fish. Literally millions of Dragonflies were hatching around the shore and appeared like a ring of blue from a short distance. Amazing! Word of warning - Google maps gives directions to this campground that are not advisable. It takes you over a very high mountain pass with very steep drop-offs and a couple of spots where parts of the road have fallen away. The safer route is through the town of Ferron and then up Ferron Canyon, past Millsite State Park and Willow Lake. You will have to travel about 22 miles on a dirt road, parts of which are a little washboardy and have some dips here and there, but is overall a pretty decent road. The reservoir and campground were definitely worth the journey!

This was what I imagine when I want to go camping in the forest. The north loop was a little busy with a number of people in trailers and lots of pets. We were lucky enough to be in the south loop with only 2 other campers. The road was very well kept in the campground, and each site was well maintained. The bathrooms were clean and the water was within a reasonable distance to our site. This location is BEA-utiful! There is plenty of wildlife, a nice quiet lake, plenty of ATV trails, and the weather was perfect for an early July camp out! NOTE: I would strongly recommend taking the road from Ferron into the campground. Google maps suggested taking Manti Canyon, and while it was also a beautiful drive, the road was just larger than an ATV trail, and was littered with large rocks. I heard the road from Gunnison isn't as bad, but for a vehicle towing a trailer the Ferron road is best.

Been going up to Ferron Reservoir for 46 year. First year without a fire, but still worth it. Weather was perfect.

I loved our camping trip to this gem of a reservoir and campground! Fishing was terrific, campsites are cozy and the hosts are great! NOTE WHEN COMING FROM GUNNISON/MAYFIELD DIRECTION: Google Maps, as of this writing, will take you onto Forest Rd 0022 and then to Forrest Rd 0023 which, for autos, is a dead end since you would need an ATV to use Forest ATV 413 to continue the route. Instead, where Forest Rd 0023 splits off of Forest Rd 0022, take the left fork to stay on Forest Rd 0022. You will pass through Twin Lakes and come to 12 Mile Flat where a sign is posted, indicating Ferron Reservoir is to the left. Once you take that left, you will continue down into Ferron Reservoir.

The most beautiful alpine reservoir camping. Each spot is roomy with a great fire pit (including wood already stacked at each spot when we got there) and access to water and clean vault toilets that didn't smell. Definitely need a thick blow up mattress since the ground is sharp rocks. Not much to do besides ATV and fish; not much hiking although birding and photography is great. Come up through Manti, take 045 and make sure you're headed towards skyline drive! If you come up any other way you need an ATV or strong 4x. Our car almost died trying to make it up the mountain so don't come up in a minivan!

Nice campground. Had a spot overlooking the water. Didn't catch any fish but had fun canoeing.

I love it up there. The group site is really nice, and so were the other campsites we had. The only thing they need to do to improve is to add another outhouse over by the group campsite.

I loved my time at this campground. It is at high enough elevation that the temperature was probably 25 degrees cooler than in the salt lake/Tooele valleys. There were wildflowers everywhere and ferron reservoir is very picturesque. There are lots of fish in the lake. There are plenty of faucets that dispense potable water which is super convenient. There were also plenty of available outhouses which were acceptably clean. There is a nice nature hike with lots of interpretive signs with interesting information. This hike doesn't seem very popular though. It looked to me like most of the people who come here come with ohv's. That is the only reason I don't give 5 stars. The ohv's disturb the peace of the location. If you come here make sure to do some star gazing. You can see them really well here!
