Fillmore Glen
Overview
Deep within the Finger Lakes region, Fillmore Glen State Park offers a serene retreat characterized by its striking geological beauty. This oasis in Moravia is renowned for its lush greenery and the five distinct waterfalls that cascade through a dramatic limestone and shale gorge. It provides a peaceful alternative to the busier tourist hubs nearby, focusing on the preservation of its natural landscape and the quiet comfort of the New York woods.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just outside the village of Moravia, the park is tucked into a valley that feels worlds away from the hustle of city life. The surrounding landscape is dominated by dense woodland and steep rock faces, creating a cool, shaded environment perfect for summer escapes. Its proximity to Owasco Lake allows visitors to easily transition from the shaded hiking trails of the glen to the open waters and recreational opportunities of one of New York's iconic Finger Lakes.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground caters to RV travelers with approximately 60 sites, including several equipped with 30-amp electrical hookups. While the park maintains a rustic atmosphere, it provides essential comforts such as a dump station, modern restrooms, and hot showers. Families often gather at the unique stream-fed swimming pool, a refreshing feature built directly into the natural flow of the creek. Each site is outfitted with a picnic table and fire ring for classic evening campfires under the canopy.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Hiking is the primary draw here, with the Gorge Trail offering breathtaking views of stone bridges and waterfalls. Just a short drive away, history enthusiasts can visit the Millard Fillmore Cabin, a replica of the birthplace of the 13th U.S. President. For those looking to explore further, the charming village of Skaneateles is nearby, offering upscale dining and boutique shopping, while the southern tip of Owasco Lake provides excellent fishing and boating access.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for nature lovers and hikers who prefer a quiet, scenic environment over a resort-style RV park. It is best suited for those traveling in smaller to mid-sized rigs who value direct access to trailheads and a dark-sky atmosphere for stargazing. If your travel style leans toward birdwatching, photography, or simple relaxation in a lush, forested setting, this state park offers the perfect balance of seclusion and natural wonder.

Definitely make the trip to Moravia and check out the beautiful trails, I prefer the Gorge trail, so many cascades and waterfalls this place is a lot less crowded than Watkins Glen and just as beautiful!!! Be prepared to climb stairs and cross over bridges, wear proper clothing and footwear!

While the towns driving to this park were rough…Fillmore Glen its self is fabulous!! First time here and I was pleasantly surprised. Dogs are allowed on the gorge trail unlike some other parks. Very impressed with the trail maintenance and signs.

Filmore Glenn State Park is a well-maintained park with good staff, costing $8 to enter. It features a great pavilion, swimming, and camping areas. I chose the recommended 1.5-mile Gorge Trail for a scenic hike, but it was cut short by a hazardous, out-of-order bridge; a warning sign at the trailhead would have been appreciated. The park also hosts weddings, with restrooms and another pavilion visible from the Gorge Trail. Overall, it was a good mid-day hike experience.

Gorge trail was awesome, both rim trails were very scenic. All trails were well maintained. South rim was moderate hike. North rim from entrance is a steep hike up stairs to start then nice trail after. Also appreciate all the tables and benches along the rim trails especially right at the top of both rim trails. Perfect resting spot after the climbs.
