This is a former military base turned state park. That helps explain the bunkers and look out tower. Only speny one night there returning from a trip to Acadia. So, it was a place to rest our heads. However, our site was kind of ridiculous. It was a pull through that was curved, had a significant slope and some slant. Ours was bad, but others were worse. Do your best to avoid sites like ours. Not a lot of amenities. But it is close to the ocean.

Truly there's some very kind people who work here as we are homeless and needed a place to rest, some have treated us poorly, but not at this camp, they were welcoming to me and my best furry friend, and we are truly grateful to have this place as an emergency shelter. The area is just marvelous with the sunsets, the stars, the coyotes singing at night, the summer breeze with the ocean in the distance, it truly is a magical place. I only wish they didn't charge you a few bucks for every shower. What are we paying for with our booking if we can't take a shower once a day? That's my only complaint but it's not enough to lower a star. They turned off the free outdoor showers that should've instantly made the indoor showers free or something should've been posted to the website in advance since it claims to have free outdoor cold showers. It's kind of forcing us to pay. If they had a token system of one shower per day or something that would make more sense. Anyways, the sites are nice and spacious, maintenance keeps up with cleanliness quite well. There's plenty of trails for walks. The only other gripe I have is the massive windmill that is low on oil, yes I've worked on heavy machinery and can tell you this thing needs an oil change badly! It sounds terrible at night and it's only sometimes - why I know it's an oil issue. Please change this before the winter or you're going to have a seized motor on your hands. It's very very loud if your site is right there it sounds like a small airplane overhead all night. Still... Love this place too much to knock a star off. For what it lacks it makes up with it's nature and location.

The campground has electric and water hookups. They also have sewer hookups. The large campsites in area 1 were the best. Reservations are not easy to book, 12 months out they fill up. Bathrooms were very clean. Sites in area 2 were most unlevel. Firepit was at every site.

This is a very popular Campground for many reasons. First, it's reasonably priced at $28 per night for Rhode Island residents and $55 for out of state. This includes water, sewer and electric. It's located on a hillside with the most popular sites being at the bottom of the hill. These are especially large, with those towards the top of the hill being narrower, and some are very steep making it a challenge to level your rig. The biggest drawback to staying here is the terrible reserve America reservation system. It's very user unfriendly, and doesn't allow any change of sites, change of days or anything of the sort. It's impossible to deal with an individual that can assist, including the rangers at the camp who are at the mercy of reserve America. Another oddball thing is if you're in a class a, b or c (Self-Propelled) rig you can only have one other drivable vehicle on site, whereas with a trailer you can have two. This can cause complications if you have a visitor that's coming to spend the night as you have to park that vehicle far off site as there are no permitted parking options at the campsite. Guests must depart at 10:00 p.m. and the charge for a guest vehicle is $12 for the daytime only visit. The area is well maintained.

We found the campground ok. If you are near the road you will hear the traffic and drag racing. Otherwise inside the grounds it’s actually quiet ( no partying as no alcohol is allowed) Our site was level but looking at other sites you need to level. We were in the area of water and electricity only but dumping is located in the park. We have a low motorhome which we found it frustrating as the dump is up high. The bathrooms are clean but you have to pay to use the showers. They do have a change machine to do so. If you have kids they have a playground and basketball court. We noticed tennis and volleyball net too. There is no real beach access and a lot of beach’s you have to pay and don’t allow dogs. Fisherman’s park over near the lighthouse you can fish from but we also took our dogs there with no issues. And you don’t have to pay for parking. If you want icecream Aunt Carries has a big selection. There is a surf, coffee and breakfast place across the road and up a bit that my husband recommends. Coffee is strong thou. They will make you show your pass every time you come in the park not just look at it from your windscreen. You have to have your Registration or take a photo of your plates to show the front desk which can lead to multiple rigs waiting. Also if you are in a motorhome and tow a car you are not allowed anymore cars at your site. The sites themselves had some privacy but people will cut through if you are located near a trash bin.

The fireman memorial adds a point of interest to an area otherwise known for beaches. I enjoy walking on the rocky barrier that juts into the water, but walkers should be careful of the many holes and cracks in the barrier. This area can get super crowded and wild during the hottest days of summer.

Went to the farmers market on Sunday. We love the calzone, pizza and bagels at the tent next to the entrance road. Also like the apples being sold near Point Judith Road

Close to the beach, hiking, clamming and shopping. Fishermen's has tents to full hookups and plenty of walking and biking. Sites are not super close either. Being a newbie, I can appreciate that. Dog friendly, considerate neighbors. It's our 1st year at this but, we'll be back often.

Such a great little place! Can't beat the price of $18 to pitch a tent! Loved it! Sure it's not your typical wooded campground, but there are shaded parts of the sites.. just have to pick the right one. Playground for children, dog friendly, fire rings, operating bathrooms, indoor as well as outdoor showers. The beach is a 5min drive! Will definitely be coming back this summer!
