We camped for one night at the Fort Sisseton campground. The campground includes 10 RV sites as well as a couple of tent sites and small cabin rentals. The park was well maintained and very quiet. The main restroom and shower facility (located in the barn across from the campground) were very clean with plenty of hot water for the showers. The park even has a recycling center in the barn. The visitor center has a small interpretive exhibit about the history of the park. We also did the self-guided tour of the fort buildings, although the park staff offer up to 3 guided tours each day. We also hiked the 1.3 mile loop trail that goes past the nearby lakes and the cemetary in the evening and again the next morning. Site 9E was level and provided a beautiful and private view from the edge of the campground. We had a strong cell signal as well.

We went during the June summer historical festival and it was great. Get there early to see the flag raising. Lots of vendors 2025 and plenty of porta potty. We packed our own lunch but there were plenty of food vendors. There were ladies making yarn, blacksmith making a chain, military demonstrations, and many other people there talking about history, life, their books, crafts and more.

We did the lantern tour. It was amazing! Perfect for the whole family and crew of teens. The guide was awesome and knowledgeable. The actual fort is a delight to step back in time. I can't wait to share my photos with my students. It was the perfect amount of ghost stories/strange happenings and history. Made me want to go back during the day and soak it all in.

We went when there was a festival going on, but we had the best time! We made butter, bread, and candles. There were also opportunities to pick potatoes, pumpkins, and gourds. Lastly, there was giant kites. This place is full of history and we enjoyed touring the buildings and learning more about what went on many many years ago.

We always enjoy our time at the Fort. Beautiful scenery along with a piece of American history. Sometimes we stop just for a relaxing stroll around the grounds. With a variety of events throughout the year, there's fun for the whole family!
