Overview

Foss State Park serves as a premier destination for water enthusiasts in Western Oklahoma. Perched on the shores of the largest lake in the region, this park offers a harmonious blend of relaxation and outdoor adventure. It is a well-maintained facility that provides a refreshing escape for travelers trekking along the Interstate 40 corridor or those seeking a peaceful lakeside retreat for an extended stay in nature.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled in Custer County, the park is defined by the expansive Foss Lake and the winding Washita River. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rolling prairies and wide-open Oklahoma skies that offer stunning sunset views. While it remains conveniently close to the main highway, the park feels secluded, offering views of native grasslands and a quiet atmosphere that is perfect for stargazing away from city lights.

Amenities & Park Features

RVers have several options, but the Cottonwood campground is particularly popular for its full hookup sites and level concrete pads. The park caters to large rigs with ease, ensuring a stress-free setup for big-rig travelers. Visitors have access to clean comfort stations, seasonal showers, and several picnic areas. For those who enjoy staying active, the park features a multi-purpose trail system and a well-regarded disc golf course that winds through the natural terrain.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The lake is the center of activity, making it a hotspot for boating and fishing for species like walleye, catfish, and striped bass. If you prefer land-based fun, the park offers equestrian trails and a designated swimming beach area. A short drive leads to the Washita National Wildlife Refuge, where nature photographers can spot a diverse array of migratory birds and local fauna in their protected natural habitat.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is a fantastic choice for active families who want a variety of recreational activities in one spot. It is equally suited for big-rig owners looking for paved sites and full amenities in a natural, rustic setting. We went for the walking trail that I found on my GPS. There was no sign or parking area. It was easy walking and the lake was pretty. Camping area looked flat and there's a ranger station.

Early March....not many campers but good level concrete site; good, clean power supply and good water pressure. Park is beautiful and so peaceful by the lake. Toilets/showers are well maintained and clean. If we're ever in this neck of the woods again, we will definitely stay again.

Amazing park! We absolutely loved it here and wish they would have had an opening for another night so we could stay longer. We got Site 1 in Cedar Point and it's the most primo site in the park. It's on the point overlooking the reservoir and has its own path down to the wayer. We were able to get in the water and throw the ball with our dog, so he was in heaven. The sites are clean, paved, level, have a great picnic table and the nicest fire ring we've ever had. They have super clean showers and restrooms. The only drawback is the crazy amount of flies, but they left at dusk. Fantastic campground. Book CP001. You'll love it!

Beautiful campground area with views of the water. We were at the cedar point campground, with electric and water hookup in a pull through site for $30. Very quiet with pretty fruit trees and level sites. The sites are right up close to the water also. Plus had great phone reception, surprisingly.

Beautiful area but poorly managed by the state park higher ups. They want $10 to even look at the lake and $30 for camping. Lots of trash and rude neighbors. Cool beach with cabanas, but they don’t clean it so it’s covered in food, flies and trash. They still want $10 to see it. Other day use areas were unusable. They still want $10. Area seems to be a ghost town. Probably cause of the state park ruining the area with high fees and no upkeep.
