Fox Lake Campground Of Bemidji

Overview

Fox Lake Campground Of Bemidji provides a classic Minnesota Northwoods experience on the quiet shores of Fox Lake. Unlike the larger, busier resorts, this park offers a peaceful lakeside retreat with a focus on natural beauty and family-friendly recreation. It serves as a comfortable base camp for exploring the Bemidji area while providing enough on-site activity to satisfy those looking for a relaxing day by the water. The park is well-regarded for its towering trees and welcoming atmosphere.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just a few miles north of downtown Bemidji, the park is nestled within a mature forest canopy that provides excellent shade and privacy for campers. The property features significant frontage on Fox Lake, a smaller and calmer body of water compared to the more commercialized Lake Bemidji. This location ensures that guests enjoy scenic lake views and easy access to the water. The surrounding area is rich with local wildlife, often allowing guests to spot loons or bald eagles from their campsites.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground is well-equipped for modern RVers, offering spacious sites with full hookup options including 30 and 50-amp service. Guests have access to essential facilities designed to make outdoor living convenient and comfortable:

  • Clean shower houses and modern laundry facilities for guest use.
  • A dedicated swimming beach and private boat docks for lake access.
  • Spacious pull-through sites designed to accommodate larger rigs.

For those looking to get on the water, the park provides boat and pontoon rentals, allowing travelers to enjoy the premier fishing opportunities that define the region. Kids will enjoy the on-site playground, while the fire rings at each site provide the perfect setting for evening gatherings.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

A short drive brings visitors to the iconic Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues in downtown Bemidji. Travelers often take the time to explore the following regional highlights:

  • The Mississippi River Headwaters located at Itasca State Park.
  • The expansive Paul Bunyan State Trail for miles of paved biking.
  • Lake Bemidji State Park and its unique orchid-filled bog walk.

Nature enthusiasts often make the trek to Itasca, located about 30 miles away, to walk across the rocks where the Mississippi begins its journey. The local Bemidji area also features charming shops and craft breweries for those looking for urban entertainment.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for families and fishing enthusiasts looking for a traditional lakeside vacation in a quiet setting. Its peaceful atmosphere also appeals to retirees and long-term travelers who want to avoid the noise of more crowded tourist hubs. If you value direct lake access and a friendly, community-oriented environment, Fox Lake Campground offers the perfect balance of convenience and natural seclusion. It is a fantastic choice for those who want the amenities of a developed park without sacrificing the rustic charm of a woodland setting.

Great place to camp at especially in October when the leaves are changing colors. Lake is clear and beautiful. Don't forget to get to get your state park stamp at the park entrance. Beware Bogsquatch is around the area too.

Site 90 was lovely and private. Large picnic table and fire pit. The campground roads were really bumpy and needed grading but that was probably due to the recent storm. Beach and water were very nice, comfortable temperature. Bathrooms were clean with separate changing rooms outside were a nice touch. Bike rentals and adjacent trails make this campground extra special!

We loved our stay here. From hiking trails to the beach, everything was maintained well. There were several events for young children, encouraging outdoor activities.

Had a fun 4 days despite the June 21 2025 storm. The staff was great helping out folks after the storm had passed. While some things were unavailable there was still plenty to do and we enjoyed our campsite. It is definitely a place worth visiting and the camping area is very nice. The shower and restroom area is centered in the campground. Well lit at night so easy to find. There are also vault toilets available and are closer for some sites. Lots of water points so filling up is very easy from your site in most cases. Will definitely return and highly recommend a visit when in the area or as a vacation destination.

Enjoyed a day there with the family! We walked with my sister and her baby with a stroller and it was very accessible to do so. So that was a plus! The ranger station is very informative. And the bog walk was very nice, lots of plants to check out!
