The atmosphere is quiet and wooded, fostering a sense of escape from the bustle of highway travel while remaining close to local services.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just a short drive from downtown Palmer, the park is perfectly positioned for travelers exploring the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The surrounding area is defined by the dramatic peaks of the Chugach Mountains and the sprawling Matanuska River. Being right on the lake means visitors are treated to stunning reflections at sunset and frequent sightings of local waterfowl. The property is conveniently located near the Glenn Highway, making it a logical stop for those heading toward Anchorage or the interior.

Amenities & Park Features

The park caters to modern RVers with full hookup sites that include both 30 and 50-amp service. Many sites are carved into the trees, offering a degree of privacy often missing in commercial parks. Essential facilities include clean restrooms, hot showers, and laundry services to help long-term travelers refresh. For those who enjoy outdoor cooking, fire pits and picnic tables are provided at most sites. The proximity to the lake allows for easy access to fishing and kayaking right from the campground edge.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure seekers will appreciate being minutes away from the iconic Hatcher Pass, where hiking trails and the historic Independence Mine await. The nearby Musk Ox Farm and Reindeer Farm offer unique wildlife encounters that are perfect for families. For a more adventurous day trip, the Matanuska Glacier is within driving distance, providing a rare opportunity to walk on ice. Local Palmer events, such as the famous Alaska State Fair, are also easily accessible during the peak summer months.

Stayed the night in our RV. Septic was on the wrong side, so treated it as a dump station. Location seemed nice. Nice lake, but couldn't stay long enough to make use of all the facilities including a Chinese restaurant.

Fox Run is conveniently located by the Glenn and Parks Hwy interchange near Matanuska Lake. Several sites overlook the lake, and there is access to the state park and trail systems. There's a small restaurant that has really good fried rice. A downside is that it's right on the highway and very noisy.

Above a busy highway, noise level was ok. We were parked in front row next to highway. Spaces are tight but doable.

The sites are a little tight BUT the staff are really nice! Nice location right outside of town. They have a REALLY good Asian restaurant on site as well.
