Fremont-Winema/Aspen Point

Overview

Aspen Point Campground offers a classic Pacific Northwest escape within the Fremont-Winema National Forest. Situated on the north shore of the stunning Lake of the Woods, this campground provides a serene setting under a canopy of old-growth timber. It is managed by the Forest Service, emphasizing a connection with nature rather than the bustle of a modern resort. Visitors come here to trade digital screens for views of the high Cascades and the refreshing mountain air found near Klamath Falls.

Location & Surroundings

Located at an elevation of approximately 5,000 feet, the park is nestled between the peaks of Mt. McLoughlin and the southern reaches of the Cascade Range. The surroundings are defined by thick stands of lodgepole pine, Douglas fir, and white fir. The park's proximity to Klamath Falls makes it accessible while remaining deeply immersed in the wilderness. The centerpiece of the area is the crystal-clear alpine lake, which serves as a recreational hub for the entire region.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility is tailored for those who enjoy a rustic camping experience. While it does not offer full hookups, it provides paved parking spurs that can accommodate many mid-sized RVs. Standard amenities include:

  • Potable water and vault toilets
  • Fire rings and picnic tables at every site
  • Convenient boat launch access

The campground is notably adjacent to the water, allowing easy entry for paddlers. For additional services like a general store or hot meals, the nearby Lake of the Woods Resort is just a short distance along the shoreline.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities. The lake is a premier spot for kayaking and fishing, particularly for rainbow trout and kokanee salmon. Hikers can access the nearby Pacific Crest Trail or attempt the challenging summit of Mt. McLoughlin. For a longer day trip, the southern entrance of Crater Lake National Park is less than an hour away, offering world-famous volcanic vistas that complement the local forest scenery.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for self-contained RVers who prioritize scenery and outdoor recreation over luxury amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families seeking a traditional summer lake vacation or photographers looking to capture the High Cascades' beauty. If you enjoy falling asleep to the sound of wind through the pines and waking up steps away from a boat dock, Aspen Point is a perfect match for your travel style.

Great national forest campground next to a beautiful lake. Well spaced campsites with water, bathrooms and pay showers available. And your campsite gets you access to the Lake of the Woods resort. Our campsite #53 was fairly level. But others needed so extensive leveling. Dump station offsite is $12 unless someone has propped the auto locking cap open.

Slower paced better winds . Shallow water . Places for family and kids. Beautiful all the way around . Paddleboarding , kayaking, snorkeling. It's all there

Such a beautiful lake. Watching hawk's trying to catch fish out of it, awesome. The water is perfect for swimming.

This place is beautiful! Got there around 10:15am on a Saturday and got one of the last day use parking spots. $10 for the day of $5 if you have a national parks pass. There is limited parking for the day use area but that kept the crowds down. Although it was busy there was enough room for everyone. The swimming area is relatively shallow for a distance from the shore but deep enough to comfortably swim. The property seems well managed with a gate attendant and camp hosts making rounds throughout the day. There is a bathroom, picnic tables, and fire pits in the day use area. We brought our dogs and they loved it as well! People started clearing out around 4pm with lots of spots left open. The resort is a half mile down the street and a pizzeria, general store, marina, and entertainment. Would definitely recommend this place for a day at the lake!

Very nice campgrounds. We could only stay one night but we'll be back. Each site is large and roomy, perfect for our 24ft RV. Lake is bueatiful with fantastic views of near by mountains. Wish we could have stayed longer...👍👍👍 Camp host was very friendly and had firewood 4 sale. Restrooms were good to go.
