Camping in the dunes. Love it. A few of the sites aren't great, so try to check them out in advance. But the place rocks. Bear in mind, no hot water in the showers.

This was a pretty good camp site. We stayed one night in site P30 in September. This campground is unique for the Outer Banks because the sites at least have some privacy and it is not just one big open field. Easy walk down a boardwalk to the beach. The beach was pretty crowded with vehicles but emptied out a little after dark. Site P30 was pretty small. We had a 3 person tent and it barely fit in the designated area at the bottom of the hill. Being at the bottom of the hill made it more private and you couldn't see other sites from the tent area. There are lots of sand burrs so I would definitely wear shoes. We also used an old blanket between our tent footprint and the tent to protect the tent floor. Bugs didn't seem to be too much of an issue but we did pretreat our tent and dining screen house ahead of time based on other reviewers mentioning issues with ticks. If you have a dining canopy, best place to set up seems to be the back of the asphalt pad.

This campsite was such a charming surprise! The spot we chose was even better than the pictures and the beach is a beautiful 10 minute walk over a bridge with a lovely view. The staff was so helpful, Madison was very accommodating and went above and beyond! We checked in after hours and the system is simple - you just stop at the entry and your parking tag is waiting right there. Campers were generally respectful and acknowledged quiet hours (great policy because generators have to be shut off). Showers and bathrooms are nicely kept and clean. We ran out of water and we’re able to refill at the water fountain! Most spots have some form of shade, and the pictures online are so helpful in choosing a location. There are extra little walkways and shaded spaces behind a lot of the spots. The beach is gorgeous. As a non-4-wheeler the amount of trucks and SUVs on the beach is a little overwhelming over the weekend, but there is still always space to get away from the vehicles. The water is amazing and warm and the sand is so perfect! We will definitely be returning!

Frisco Campground couldn’t have been nicer! I would give this place 10 stars if I could. This was the first campground where I heard more noise from the outdoors than from the other campers. I literally fell asleep to a “frog & circadian orchestra.” I enjoyed seeing the bunnies on my morning walk. I was wowed by the sunrises! There are many very private sites, with shade and most seem to have easy trails to the bathrooms / shower house. The bathrooms & showers were clean. Two well maintained boardwalks from the campground lead right to the beach. The beach was pristine! It was the nicest “wild” beach I’ve gone to. Everything about this place was good, even the park ranger was really helpful and friendly. Be warned though … none of the sites have electricity or water. There is water at the bath house, if you don’t bring your own. The showers are cold water … which to me felt great after a sandy, humid, 85 degree day. Many of the sites have small “driveways” so if you aren’t tent camping check the dimensions of the driveway. I also noticed that the “tent” areas at sites really vary in size so if you have a larger tent check the size of the “tent pad.”
