Fushimi Lake

Overview

Fushimi Lake Provincial Park offers a tranquil retreat deep within the lush Boreal Forest of Northern Ontario. This destination is celebrated for its crystal-clear waters and expansive sandy shorelines, providing a serene backdrop for RV travelers seeking a true wilderness experience. The park is well-maintained, blending the rugged beauty of the north with the necessary comforts for a multi-day stay. It serves as a peaceful haven away from the busier southern corridors.

Location & Surroundings

Situated roughly 25 kilometers west of Hearst, ON, the park is nestled in a region dominated by towering conifers and diverse wildlife. The landscape is defined by Fushimi Lake, a large, clean body of water known for its clarity. The surrounding forest is home to moose, bears, and various bird species, making it a prime spot for nature photography. The isolation of this location ensures incredibly dark night skies, perfect for stargazing and northern lights viewing when conditions allow.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a variety of campsites, including several equipped with electrical hookups that can accommodate medium-sized RVs and trailers. Visitors have access to essential facilities such as comfort stations with flush toilets and hot showers, a laundromat, and a sanitation station for waste disposal. For those bringing boats, there is a sturdy launch and a dedicated fish cleaning station. The park also maintains several hiking paths and provides firewood and ice for purchase at the main gate.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw here, with fishing for Walleye and Northern Pike being a top priority for many visitors. The Achilles Lake Trail offers a scenic hiking route through the forest, while the sandy beaches provide a safe area for swimming. Just a short drive away, the town of Hearst offers a glimpse into local culture at the Galerie d'art de Hearst or the local heritage sawmill. For more exploration, the vast network of logging roads nearby is popular with those who enjoy remote exploration.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for RVers who prioritize nature and solitude over resort-style luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a safe, quiet environment where children can play on the beach. Anglers and photographers will find the location especially rewarding due to the abundant fish populations and striking landscapes. If you are traveling through Northern Ontario and want a true Boreal Forest experience, Fushimi Lake is a must-visit destination.

A real gem of a park. Well-kept with recent infrastructure updates. Sites on Campground B have new level, well-draining gravel pads and good privacy on three sides with trees. (If tent camping, you may want a few layers of tarp under your tent for a little extra protection from the gravel). A short walk to the gatehouse/store for ice and firewood. Sites had two picnic tables (ours were new) and fire pit. Easy access to beach with picnic tables and benches. Water is not potable so needs to be boiled or chemically treated; not the greatest tasting park water I’ve had, so if you’re fussy you may want to bring your own bottled water for drinking. Nice sandy beach for swimming. Achilles Lake Trail an easy walk with stunning views.

A nice quiet park. Good fishing. A few ok hikes. More of a place to paddle, fish and relax. The childrens park is nicely equipped. The beaches are nice. The park staff were all very friendly and professional.

Visiting in late August - Early September. Area was extremely quiet and cooler temperatures. Lake and views are amazing! Washrooms were clean. We will be back!

A one of a kind provincial park. It’s very quiet and serene. The park staff keep the park facilities very clean the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is the water is not hot (took a long time to warm in the shower) washing hands with iced cold water and even the hand dryer was blowing freezing cold air. The water is not safe to drink unless boiled for over a minute. These are small inconveniences that don’t bother me for the opportunity to be in the wilderness on a beautiful lake that is great for fishing. My step dad threw his lure in the water from the shore and caught a big one in 15 seconds from the shore! They have laundry room that costs $1.50 to dry (takes $1 or 25 cents) not sure how much it is to wash as I didn’t need to use it. The hiking trail to the fire lookout tower was unmaintained but only 4 or so fallen trees to step over. Reaching the tower was neat it’s on a massive rock with beautiful moss growing all around. An eagle or something has built a nest on top of the tower. We stayed on site 21 and it was large and private with 2 big picnic tables and electricity.

Fushimi lake PP is probably one of a kind. It's a small provincial park with a different vibe to the other southern Ontario PP I have been to. First of all it's more like a fishing resort, love the fish cleaning station. Also the park itself rents motorized boats to fish on this beautiful lake! They also rent bicycles and canoes. The fishing is top notch. Pike and Walleye is the main species of fish the lake holds. Friendly and helpful staff, truely a neat and unforgettable camping/fishing experience. The flying bugs was not as bad as other reviews, I would say they are comparable to any other PP.
