Gallatin/Baker's Hole

Overview

Baker's Hole Campground, managed by the Custer Gallatin National Forest, offers a premier camping experience just north of the iconic West Yellowstone entrance. This destination is widely recognized for its **natural beauty** and provides a more authentic, rustic alternative to the crowded commercial parks found in town. Visitors are treated to a landscape where the forest meets the meadow, creating a peaceful atmosphere that serves as a perfect home base for exploring the region’s legendary thermal features and wild landscapes.

Location & Surroundings

The park is ideally situated along the banks of the **Madison River**, one of the most famous fly-fishing rivers in the world. Located only three miles from West Yellowstone, MT, the campground sits at an elevation of approximately 6,600 feet, surrounded by lodgepole pines and lush riparian zones. This location offers a sense of deep immersion in the Montana wilderness while remaining conveniently close to local supplies. The area is a known corridor for **diverse wildlife**, including bald eagles, ospreys, and the occasional moose or elk.

Amenities & Park Features

While the campground maintains a forest-style charm, it caters to modern travelers with several **electric hookup sites** offering both 30 and 50-amp service. This is a significant draw for RVers who want a balance between comfort and nature. Facilities include vault toilets and access to clean drinking water through shared spigots. Each campsite is thoughtfully designed with a picnic table and a heavy-duty fire ring. Because this is located in grizzly country, the park provides **bear-resistant storage containers** to ensure safety for both campers and local wildlife.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary attraction is the West Entrance of **Yellowstone National Park**, which is just a few minutes away, granting easy access to sights like the Grand Prismatic Spring and Old Faithful. For those who prefer to stay closer to camp, the Madison River provides world-class **blue-ribbon trout fishing** right at the edge of the campground. Additionally, Hebgen Lake is located nearby, offering expansive waters for boating, kayaking, and hiking along the shoreline, making it a favorite spot for those looking to escape the national park crowds.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an exceptional choice for **outdoor enthusiasts and anglers** who value a quiet, natural environment over resort-style amenities like pools or paved pads. It is ideal for RVers who enjoy a bit of self-sufficiency while still appreciating the convenience of on-site electricity. If you are a traveler looking for a **serene mountain retreat** that puts you on the doorstep of Yellowstone’s greatest wonders, Baker's Hole provides the perfect blend of solitude and accessibility for your Montana adventure.

Convenient location for staying close to Yellowstone. The hosts that were there seemed like they were burned out and not overly friendly. A host from lonesomehurst campground started covering on Tuesdays and she was exceptional. Extremely friendly and helpful

We only stayed here for one night because we were just passing through, but if we decide to visit Yellowstone again in the future, we will definitely consider this location. The price was excellent and we got a chance to walk near the river in the evening. Our Starlink worked for basic Internet access, but as soon as we tried to hop on a work call, the obstruction (the beautiful trees around our site) were too much for the system to handle. Just a consideration to think about if you are trying to work from the road.

Great campground! Very nice hosts! We arrived at about 6 p.m., and there were still a few places left. There was a cell and 5G! There were bear boxes on each campsite, clean toilets, and nice privacy between campsites! It was $26. Overall we had a great time, would be happy to stay again!

We spent 2 nights here in Sept. 2023 during our Yellowstone & Tetons roadtrip. The site host was kind and helpful. I can't remember the nightly fee. This is bear country so come prepared. There are bear boxes and vault toilets on site. The sites also have fire rings. They were easy to get in and out of with our small pull behind. Would 10/10 go stay here again. It's the only place during our trip we stayed for 2 nights.

Would stay there again. Only complaint is that all of the electric sites are basically right on the highway so you get a lot of noise from the trucks, but other than that it was awesome
