This place needs a upgrade. Very run down. Showers and Bathrooms were awful. The water smell was overwhelming. Definitely can not drink. Plus it was $70 a night. Pictures on website are very deceiving. At one time it was probably a nice place.

This is the coolest place! It started with a phone call to confirm last minute availability. Jeff warmly welcomed us to come on. When we arrived, he was just as welcoming. They are located literally across the street from Lake Superior. Plenty of amenities including showers, propane, a craft beer bar, laundry, and cute gift shop upon registration. Everything you could need while traveling.

The site we were assigned to was so heavily treed that we couldn’t deploy our two slides (one on each side) completely due to overhanging tree branches. Jeff Glass, the owner, represented to us the site we were assigned was spacious. The proprietor of the park, knew full well that we were coming in with a 35' motor home. Upon arrival, we were shocked that the whole park was so unmaintained with overgrowing trees rubbing along both sides of our motor home. In particular, the passenger side of our motor home was scratched all the way down the vehicle as we were pulling in due to overhanging tree branches. Glass took our credit card info over the phone and charged our account for our planned three day stay - $296. He never sent anything regarding terms and conditions of our reservation. Furthermore, the time it took to make the reservation over the phone was about four times longer than it should have taken due to the owner's incompetence and/or mental condition. Upon arrival and check-in, he was asleep at the desk and looked more like a dirty homeless person. We connected to the well water spigot on site and, despite running for a bit to help clear out the crud in the water line was grossed out by the dirty brown water which smelled like sewer water. There's no way one could consider drinking it. The local health department will be notified of the poor water quality as it's highly doubtful it could pass inspection. We attempted to bring these issues to the owner at the registration office but the door was padlocked. We were able to make contact the owner's daughter over the phone to inform her that due to the disgusting water quality and overgrown conditions of the trees on the campsites we were checking out after the first night. She offered a ridiculously weak and insincere apology with no recommended solutions to any of our issues. Her response was basically, we charged you our "stated" $95/night fee and you paid it and informed us that once paid, no refund is available under any circumstance. Only, a credit for two nights stay at sometime in the future. They never provided us any of the terms and conditions of the park as to our reservation. She was curt, disrespectful, and totally useless as to our situation. Never coming here again. Don’t waste your money. Stay at the new RV park at the Ojibway Casino just to the west of this location and only $40/night with full hookup and beautiful bathroom & shower facilities. Finally, their website shows spectacular views of Lake Superior and a beautiful layout which is a total misrepresentation of what it actually is when you get there. You get here and it looks like hillbilly heaven.

We stayed here in a tent side so we could bring our sxs and put some miles on her. We also had friends with us who had a 42’ camper The only complaint we had was the price but we had reserved pretty late and were still able to get in We had read some not so great reviews and were a little worried after making reservations However I say we were happy with our stay overall!! The water was quite rusty but we were in iron country. Other than that Jeff Crystal and her husband were quite accommodating and very friendly! If we come up again to ride I think we’d be up to stay there again. It would be nice to see some of the shut down operations back up and running but we accomplished our goal of a fun relaxing week!!!

Absolutely wonderful! We will DEFINITELY be back to enjoy this very unique and personality filled campground! Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and a campground BREWERY- what a fabulous surprise! Short walk across the street to a sandy beach where you can build a fire RIGHT ON THE BEACH! Ranger Jeff and Crystal are our people! Thank you for the hospitality - we will carry your spirit with us as we travel on- we will be back to visit again soon!

This place is fantastic, a lot of trees and the beach on superior lake across the street is amazing. We were looking to do yooperlite rock hunting and the owner set up us for success. Not a 5 stars because of the water. We did some laundry and everything that was white came back rusty/beige. I'm suspecting a high level of tannic acid in the water. Knowing it, don't use the water and you will have a wonderful stay.

I will start with the positives. Great location right across the street from a beautiful beach. For the first time we were in an RV park that was truly a nature experience. You did not feel crowded. Staff was friendly and took us to our final location. The property needs some investment. Driving through with our 40' rig we hit a lot of branches. The roadways and rv spots need gravel and a lot of it. The most important issue was the water. If you fill a coffee pot of water from their well it will look like black tea. Bad smell and not good for your plumbing. We had a three stage filter that had the filters replaced a week prior and they did not help much. (They also need to be replaced since being there). I'm not from that area but I can't imagine that water is safe to drink. As I noted earlier the place needs a bit of investment and something to be done about the water.

We unexpectedly came across Gitche Gumee campground, and boy, we are glad we did. This campground has it all… clean showers/toilets, wooded areas, a stunning beach across the street, and even a brewery! The owners and staff were so friendly and helpful, we honestly could not have stumbled across a better place to camp. It was minutes from Marquette, and a short drive to Pictured Rocks. We could not be happier with our stay, and will be back! Channing brewed some super tasty beer that was available at the brewery! So happy with this place. You can tell how much the owners and employees care about their campground. Thank you!!

We love this place so much that last year we camped here 2 weekends in a row! And looking forward to our stay again this weekend. This place is like out of a book. Unique and fun!! Very friendly owner (Jeff) and great communication. The communal area is just beautiful. Built by the owner years ago, there is a log cabin where you can enjoy a fresh brewed beer. And just across the street from Lake Superior. Bathrooms and shower in great condition and roomy. I’ve recommended this site the many friends.

Do not book a stay here! If you want to sit and reminisce with the owner Jeff that goes fine, but if you have any questions or concerns about your stay forget it. As a business owner he is completely unprofessional and lacks the knowledge to send a simple receipt or email. I needed to change my dates of stay and requested he confirm that I have a credit to be used with the campground. He didn't know how and told me 3 times that he would call me back. I never received a call back. I continued to call daily for 2 weeks without getting through to anyone. They don't even have an answering machine to leave a message on. When he finally answered the phone, when I called from a different phone number, he hung up on me a few sentences into the conversation and didn't answer when I called back. There are no posted prices and Jeff the owner admitted that he doesn't post prices so that he can give whatever quote he wants to people. There was no confirmation of stay and when he offered me a credit because I had to change my stay due to my son's baseball schedule, he had no way to send me confirmation of a credit with the campground. When I was fed up with trying to contact him I asked for a refund and was hung up on. There is nothing on the website that says a patron will be charged at the time of booking. I understand a no refund policy after the point of check in, many companies do that. There were no services rendered so I will continue to work to get my money recovered.

This was a last day book, never read the reviews but i wish i did. As you can see the bathrooms where horrendous. The women’s bathroom was filthy, no paper towel but old fashioned dried towel. The men’s bathroom had no lights or at certain times it would come on when you have to play with the light switch. The brewery/bar/entertainment area wasn't functional at certain time. The owner Jeff was really nice and helpful just needs to upkeep the campground. Wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Great little campground with dirt roads and plenty of trees. This place is like camping used to be. Didn’t see a single golf cart, everyone was friendly, and people were walking around visiting. My 35’ 5th wheel fit nicely and the full hookups were great. My wife and I enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

My Husband, Daughter (2) and myself had such a WONDERFUL experience here at Gitche Gumee. Jeff was so kind and accommodating after a mishap we had with an Airbnb host. He really made sure that we were taken care of and is one of the sweetest people we have ever met. The campsites are super clean and quiet as well. We will absolutely be recommending Gitche Gumee to our friends and family as well as coming back ourselves!

Wow! I have read the reviews and am shocked at the things people have said. Yes this an older campground, but it is beautiful and rustic all rolled into one. Hot showers, music playing, large camp sites, family and pet friendly, close to Lake Superior, can travel all over the western UP for daily trips. A little more expensive than I had planned, but the going costs of other accommodations was outrageous. Jeff was super nice, and super flexible, he even drove us to our site to be sure it was going to fit our needs before we checked in. Yes this campground requires planning. Go to the store and get what you need ice, wood, this little old guy is doing a ton to expect him to run a general store as well. We absolutely loved our stay Jeff. Thank you so much from Battle Creek!!

We loved Gitche Gumee RV campground. Yes, it has its flaws but it has a rustic and authentic campground feel to it. If you are looking for all the bells and whistles of a KOA, then this is not for you. That said, the RV sites are spacious and you are not packed like sardines like other campgrounds. The roadside park across the street on Lake Superior is awesome. We especially loved having campfires on the beach. The beer is also very good from the on-site brewery.
