Glendale Fish & Wildlife Area
Overview
Glendale Fish & Wildlife Area offers a sprawling retreat for nature lovers across more than 8,000 acres of upland and wetland habitat. Established in 1956, this public property is centered around the massive Dogwood Lake, providing a serene environment for outdoor recreation and wildlife observation. Unlike high-end commercial resorts, this park focuses on the raw beauty of the Indiana landscape, making it a staple for travelers who prefer traditional camping experiences in a quiet, natural setting.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Montgomery, Indiana, the area is nestled within the scenic rolling hills of Daviess County. The landscape is a diverse mix of hardwood forests, open fields, and various water bodies, creating a rich ecosystem for local flora and fauna. Its rural location ensures a peaceful atmosphere away from major highway noise, though it remains easily accessible for those traveling through Southern Indiana via Highway 50 or Highway 231.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground provides 121 sites, including 67 electric hookup sites and 54 non-electric spots for a more primitive experience. Visitors have access to a modern comfort station featuring showers and flush toilets during the peak season, as well as a convenient dump station for RV maintenance. While the sites are more basic than a private resort, the direct access to boat ramps and multiple fishing piers makes it highly functional for water-based activities.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is Dogwood Lake, which is 1,400 acres and renowned for its excellent bluegill, catfish, and crappie fishing. Boaters appreciate the 10 mph motor limit, which maintains a peaceful surface for kayaking and canoeing throughout the day. Beyond the water, the area features extensive wildlife viewing opportunities and seasonal hunting, while the nearby community of Washington offers local dining and historical sites for those seeking a quick day trip.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize quiet natural surroundings and recreation over luxury amenities. It is a perfect fit for anglers, birdwatchers, and families looking for an authentic state-managed wilderness experience. RVers with smaller to mid-sized rigs will find it particularly comfortable, offering a genuine chance to disconnect from the digital world and enjoy the quiet sounds of the Indiana backcountry.

Place is a clean campground with a decent bathroom. Some sites are electric and some are primitive and close to the lake. Fishing is good and lake is clean

I used to go there as a teenager. My friends and I had beagles and rabbit hunted often, or just took the dogs out for fun. They opened the rabbit season a little early there in the mid 70's. We would make the trip from Tell City. Great memories.

Each and every body of water here is a grass bog. You can’t bank fish unless you’re 12 foot tall. The ponds are overgrown all around them except for one place each and the water is choked with plant growth so bad it’s not funny. There is no fishing to be done here bankside.

Worse ran DNR in the state. Has to be, couldn’t get any worse. Can’t bring your kids fishing unless they wear stilts! The grass around all bodies of water is over chest high to a 6 foot tall man. The big lake has a barrier of algae, weeds and lily pads where you have to have throw 20 yards out to get to clear water. I could go on and on about it but I won’t. Don’t ask about the hunting, that’s a bigger joke.
