Goose Island
Overview
Goose Island State Park offers a unique coastal experience where the Texas brush country meets the edge of the bay. Known for its iconic Big Tree and diverse ecosystems, it provides a tranquil escape for RVers looking to reconnect with nature. Whether you are parked under wind-sculpted oaks or right along the shoreline, the park captures the essence of the Gulf Coast, offering a quiet alternative to busy commercial resorts. It is a place where the rhythm of the tides and the calls of migratory birds set the pace for your stay.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just north of Rockport, the park is nestled between St. Charles Bay and Aransas Bay. The landscape is a striking mix of coastal marshes, mudflats, and hardy live oak forests. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by the natural beauty of the Coastal Bend, with easy access to the water for fishing or kayaking. While the park feels secluded and peaceful, it remains conveniently close to the local seafood restaurants and shops of Rockport-Fulton, providing the perfect balance of wilderness and accessibility.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features two distinct camping environments to suit different preferences. The Bayfront area offers sites with water and electricity right on the edge of the water, protected by a concrete bulkhead, perfect for those who want to wake up to a sea breeze. For those seeking shelter from the sun, the wooded sites provide a more secluded feel under the canopy of ancient oaks. Key amenities include:
- 30 and 50-amp hookups for various RV sizes.
- A massive 1,620-foot long fishing pier that is lit at night.
- On-site dump stations, restrooms, and hot showers.
- A double-lane boat ramp for easy bay access.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is a primary draw for visitors, with the pier providing 24-hour access to trout, redfish, and drum. Birdwatchers flock here during the winter to spot the endangered Whooping Cranes or the hundreds of other migratory species that pass through the area. A short drive within the park takes you to the famous Big Tree, a giant live oak that has stood for over 1,000 years. Additionally, the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and the Texas Maritime Museum in Rockport are essential stops for those interested in local history and conservation.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for nature lovers and birders who prioritize scenery and wildlife over resort-style luxuries like swimming pools or clubhouses. It appeals strongly to anglers looking for easy bay access and families who enjoy exploring the outdoors together. If you prefer a quiet, rustic atmosphere where the sound of the waves and coastal breezes take center stage, Goose Island is a perfect fit for your Texas RV itinerary.

It was almost like I had the park to myself. Rarely did I see another person except an occasional cyclist or vehicle drive past my campsite. I think I was at the head of a deer trail because every day I saw deer standing at the mouth of my campsite. It was almost like being back home... except for the sand.

Awesome staff, an extremely clean park. The only issues were we came on a monday, and they hadn't gotten to the bathrooms. That was fixed within hours. Love the fishing pier.We caught many and had a great time! Such a relaxing place. Only issue was some of the other campers children, we're feeding the fish to the the waterfowl (Great Blue Heron)which did make it uncomfortable at times.

Nice bay front campsites. Everyone gets a view. Great location, with a short drive to Fulton-Rockport for anything you need. The stickers (goat heads) in the grass are miserable, so make sure to bring an outdoor rug for your pets. Immaculate bathrooms and showers. Very friendly rangers and staff! The state park police patrols frequently.

Awesome staff and a very nice park. Excellent bathroom & shower facilities. The hiking trail is short but nice, with benches to rest if you need them. Nice picnic area and plenty of campsites.

Very nice state park with camping right on the beach or in shady oaks. I met several nice families during my stay. Ocean breeze kept mosquitoes at bay. Have Off spray handy for morning and evening.
