Grand Canyon Caverns RV Park & Campground

Overview

Grand Canyon Caverns RV Park & Campground offers a truly unique camping experience situated along one of the most iconic stretches of Historic Route 66. This property is more than just a place to park; it serves as the gateway to the largest dry caverns in the United States. Guests stay on a sprawling 800-acre ranch in the high desert of Northern Arizona, where the atmosphere blends vintage Americana with rugged natural beauty and prehistoric history.

Location & Surroundings

Located near Peach Springs, AZ, the park is positioned at mile marker 115, providing a serene escape from the highway noise of modern interstates. The landscape is characterized by wide-open desert vistas and ancient rock formations. Because of its remote location, the area is renowned for its incredibly dark skies, making it a premier destination for stargazing enthusiasts who want to see the Milky Way without light pollution from nearby cities.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground provides various options for travelers, including full hookup RV sites and spacious pull-through spots designed to accommodate larger rigs. The park focuses on a blend of convenience and outdoor recreation. On-site features include:

  • Seasonal swimming pool and sun deck
  • Laundry and shower facilities
  • 22-hole professional disc golf course
  • On-site restaurant and classic grill
  • Convenience store and gift shop

These features ensure that even in a remote desert setting, guests have access to the essentials and entertainment during their stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The main draw is the Grand Canyon Caverns tours, where visitors descend 21 stories underground to explore prehistoric geological formations and unique fossil records. Beyond the caves, the park is a short drive from the Hualapai Indian Reservation. Adventure seekers can arrange trips to explore the Colorado River via Diamond Creek Road or visit the nearby town of Seligman, known as the birthplace of Route 66. The surrounding trails offer excellent opportunities for high-desert hiking and wildlife viewing.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for Route 66 road trippers looking to immerse themselves in the history of the Mother Road. It also appeals to families seeking an adventurous stopover with unique educational opportunities right on the property. If you prefer a rustic, quiet environment with plenty of space to breathe over a crowded urban resort, the wide-open spaces and unique geological history here will provide a memorable stay for your Arizona RV journey.

This campground has nothing special in views, facilities, or pricing. It's a plain, decent workaday campground. Portapotties, water, power (although the power was being redone when we stayed). The sites are well-spaced and fairly flat, with lots of pinion/juniper trees interspersed. Access road is old pavement, and the entire campground is gravel/dirt. We couldn't vouch for the restaurants or the tours, because the power refurbish had nearly everything shut down. The staff was great, except for one curmudgeon who played hooky during the charm school training.

I didn’t see the caves but the campground was great and every employee I talked to was very nice and helpful. The campground bathroom and showers are great. I was able to charge my EV which is what made this trip to Supai even possible for me. Even the restaurant is nicer than what I was expecting. I got the feeling that whoever manages this place really cares about the guest experience.

Lisa is the best camp host! Super friendly and helpful. She drove us around to help us find a good spot for our rig. The dump station could use some attention. It was difficult to find the sewer port. It was about 20 ft from the DUMP STATION hose and sign. All in though, we’d stay here again!

A very cool place to stop if you're driving a long way through the desert and need a break. You can visit a surprisingly large dry cave and, if you really want, you can even spend the night inside it! Definitely worth seeing. Highly recommend.
