Grand Canyon/Mather

This is my favourite campground of our roadtrip so far. š The campground is located in the woods and the animals walk across the campground, which confirms you are really camping in nature. The grand canyon is very nearby. The toilets are totally okay, the showers we did not use. There is a free bus shuttle that can be used. We would definitely recommend going here šš²šļø

Nice campground with both sun and shade. Sites are large and spread out. No hookups or showers onsite, but they have paid showers not too far away at the camp store. They have water spigot throughout. Lots of sites available.

We had an amazing camping experience at Mather Campground on the South Rim! The campground is clean, peaceful, and surrounded by beautiful nature. We spent the day relaxing in our hammocks, setting up our tents, enjoying a BBQ, and roasting marshmallows and pineapple over the campfireāsuch a fun and memorable experience! We also played throwball in the open areas, making it a perfect getaway for family and friends. The facilities were well maintained, and the location is ideal for exploring the Grand Canyon. We would definitely love to come back and highly recommend this campground to anyone looking for a great outdoor camping experience!

What an amazing place! Grand Canyon is a must see! And the Mather campground is the perfect host for visiting and camping the GC. Had one of the nicest views on the stars ever.

Mather Campground is very nice. Site are spaced apart well. Wild animals all around. And within walking or biking to main looks outs and visitors center for Grand Canyon National Park.... Which is one of my favorite!!! The negative parts.. we were in a 25ft TT and there were not many options. Most sites are small and the campground is more for smaller rigs and tents. There is a RV campground, but I didn't go and see this. ..

By some random streak of luck (as of 11/4/2025), Mather Campground is WIDE OPEN. Normally you need to book 6 months in advance but due to the government shutdown (sorry park rangers) the ground was closed and then reopened. We went 10/31-11/2 and the bathrooms were stocked, water was still running, and there was no park entrance fee. These are flushable bathrooms with lights, sinks, and soap. Big trash dumpsters are nearby for safely throwing away trash. This campground is also right next to the south rim trail! We stayed at 170, a short walk to the bathrooms but still private and beautiful. I recommended doing the Trail of Time for an easy walk around the rim. Itāll be very cold at night (around 30 degrees) but warm in the sun during the day. Grandview Point is fabulous for sunrise + sunset views. You can go to mather point at night for some awesome stargazing!

I have camped at many national parks but this was the worst. Thereās RV and tent camping mixed in same lot. So thereās always someone with RV arriving at middle of night. Additionally this site is next to a main road. So thereās always vehicle movement noise. On top of these, my lot was close to the campground main access road. So there was always vehicle movements and it felt like sleeping on a busy road in terms of noise. Plus $30 per night for an empty flat ground is a massive ripoff.

Good shower facilities and comfort station. The elderly NPS staff member who checked me in seemed slightly grumpy or at least not exactly welcoming. Seemed like there was a recognition missing that the S in NPS is for service, and absent tourists, his job would not exist. I had the same impression / experience with the staff member working at the west gate when I arrived.

Get there before sundown to comfortably find your camping spot. It was a beautiful and adorable camping neighborhood. Super affordable and close and easy access to the Grand canyon park and trials. Dog friendly with a walking path. Each camping spot has a picnic table and a fire pit.

Nice spots in the forest. We had a Rocky Mountains Elk approaching us at just 15 meters. Walking distance to the free shuttle system. A dump station available at the Park entrance. Recommend this place.

We stayed during the fires in the north rim 2025. There were no fires allowed, but you could use propane grills, which wasnāt listed on the website. The showers were not working due to the water shortage which was not listed on their website page. The camp ground was very convenient to the South Rim. Shuttle bus was great , hop off and on every 10-15 mins. Grounds are very clean, bathrooms clean. Very quite. Saw elk walking through camp ground several days. Nighttime so many stars too see! Thank you Camp Mathers

Very nice campsite to stay at for visiting the grand canyon (south rim). The free pendelbus service to the grand canyon is right next to the campsite office. The toilets are clean. Its very quiet. It was amazing to see the elk cows walk trough the campsite and right next to our RV. Don't leave your garbage outside because the crows will tear it apart. Showers are available at a low cost (bring quarters!)

Mather campground is nicely laid out. Campsites are not crowded, there are trees and your usual fire ring and picnic table. Our site 015 Aspen loop was nice but the picnic table was never in the shade. The bathrooms at Aspen Loop were not very clean. The laundry service at the end of the road was very convenient, the small store had ice, drinks and a few other items so you didnāt have to go to the market further away. The showers are coin showers 2.50 for 5 minutes. They need refreshed and better cleaning. All in all I recommend, just better bathroom cleaning and more frequent would make it a more pleasant experience. But just a short walk or drive and you canāt beat the view!

Although it was only 1 night, we had a wonderful time at Mather. Site 80 was a large site with plenty of space and privacy, surrounded by beautiful pines. Had a picnic table and campfire ring with attached BBQ. And the best part was being so close to all the major points of the Grand Canyon! The host was kind enough to let me know it was the week of the "star party" which turned out to be our favorite part of the visit!!

We tent camped here in April 2025 and it snowed. This campground is in Grand Canyon National Park. We loved it here! The tent sites are incredible. Each loop has tons of campsites but each spot was so spacious, you weren't right on top of your neighbors. Each camp site had their own small driveway to park your car, a picnic table, and a fire pit with a grill top. Bathrooms were clean enough. We didn't use the showers during our stay. Customer service was astonishingly bad for how nice of a campground it is. When we checked in, the old bald hag working asked for our site number and loop. I explained to him I didn't have service on my phone to pull up my email with our campsite loop and number at this time (I had SOS), and I asked if I could give him my last name instead to look up. He scoffed at me and told me that it's quicker to look up the loop and site number on his computer. I explained again I didn't have service, but can provide my last name for him to look up. This old bald man literally THREW a stack of papers at me and said "sure if you can find it on this list." I was APALLED. Luckily, I had forwarded that email to my boyfriend at some point with our site info and he was able to bring up our loop and campsite number. The campground is great location, very clean, quiet, and the tent spots were huge. Other than that old miserable hag working, we had a pleasant experience and would stay there again.
