Grand Lake/Snowdale

Overview

Grand Lake/Snowdale, specifically the Snowdale Area of the Grand Lake State Park system, offers a tranquil escape on the shores of Lake Hudson. Unlike some of the more crowded recreation areas in Oklahoma, Snowdale provides a secluded environment where the focus remains on the natural beauty of the water. Travelers visiting this Salina destination will find a park that prioritizes access to the outdoors and a slower pace of life, making it a hidden gem for those exploring the Green Country region.

Location & Surroundings

Located in the charming town of Salina, the park is perfectly positioned for those who enjoy waterfront views and lush, wooded landscapes. The park sits on the eastern shore of Lake Hudson, a massive reservoir known for its jagged shoreline and excellent fishing opportunities. The surrounding area is characterized by rolling hills and dense foliage, creating a private atmosphere that feels miles away from the hustle of city life while remaining easily accessible via State Highway 20.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features approximately 80 RV campsites, providing a range of options for travelers. Many sites are equipped with water and electrical hookups to accommodate modern rigs. Visitors can make use of several key facilities designed for outdoor recreation:

  • A lighted boat dock and ramp providing 24-hour access to Lake Hudson.
  • A designated swimming beach area for seasonal fun.
  • Comfort stations equipped with hot showers and restrooms.
  • A playground, sand volleyball court, and numerous picnic tables with grills.

These features combine to offer a functional yet rustic experience for those who appreciate the state park lifestyle.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is the primary draw here, with Lake Hudson recognized as a premier destination for largemouth bass and catfish. Beyond the park boundaries, visitors can explore the nearby Spavinaw State Park or take a short drive to see the expansive Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. The town of Salina itself offers a glimpse into local history as one of the oldest European settlements in Oklahoma, providing a nice blend of cultural exploration and rugged outdoor recreation.

Who This Park Is Best For

Snowdale is ideal for avid anglers who want to be steps away from some of the best fishing waters in the state. Its smaller size and quieter atmosphere make it a perfect choice for families seeking a low-key weekend getaway or retirees looking for a serene lakeside stopover. If you prefer the sounds of nature and the gentle lapping of waves over the busy amenities of a large-scale commercial resort, this park will likely fit your travel style perfectly.

The park has a paved road, lots of shade and parking, updated playground and volleyball sand-court, a nice pavilion with picnic tables one can rent for events, a boat ramp, about 13 RV stations and just as many tent camping sites available with restrooms and shower rooms. The place is always clean and typically windy. The water has a foaming ring around the shoreline for some reason.

Hi everyone, You guys are just going to have to go here and check it out. It is a really small park. But it does have a lot to offer. It has playground for kids, picnic areas, bathroom and showers, fishing, swimming, and tent and RV camping. We went and just enjoyed the tranquil setting, enjoyed a picnic lunch, and planned a fishing day trip. It also has large pavilions for group picnics or parties. So go check it out, and have some fun in the Oklahoma outdoors!

Made for an exciting memorial day weekend. Set up friday and overnight was great. Then saturday came and nice enjoyable day with more family arriving. Then came saturday night. Had to flee the park to avoid the tornado that actually clipped the park. The group lost 2 latge tents, our pop up was relocated slightly and sustained slight damage, and one vehicle was struck by our flying metal table. Then upon returning we all got stuck do to the apparent massive rain that fell with the storm. Once clean up was made sunday we all continued with the weekend and enjoyed. No one was injured and damages were replacable. Thank GRDA for reopening this park and giving us a place to camp.

I just used the boat ramp - the park itself is closed. I'm told Snowdale Park is now managed by the GRDA and will reopen late spring 2022. I liked the gentle put-in for kayaks near the boat ramp with ample parking nearby. However, there are no restrooms or facilities until the park reopens.
