Grandfather Campground was such a nice place to stay. We took our 40' motorciach in with no issues. It is a simple, quiet campground, just the way a campground in the mountains should be. We stayed on the lower level by the river. A cup of coffee by the river first thing in the morning was heaven. All of the staff we met were so nice. Considering the damage done by Helene, they've done a phenomenal job getting it opened back up. (Go look at their Facebook page) Its far enough away from the traffic of Boone but close enough to go back & explore. Our dogs enjoyed the newly reopened dog park as they were given treats & loved on by the staff. The price was just right. We hope to go back soon!

Beautiful location overall. For tent sites, I would not necessarily recommend it however. Sites do not have gravel pads, so many of them can become very muddy when it rains, which is a lot. Bathrooms and bathouses were not bad but also not really that clean when we were there. Loud highway noise near most sites in the front of the campground. I'd choose a site near the back if I were to go again. For tent camping, I will probably go to Linville Falls campground next time.

Just returned from 3 night say in site T66. My opinion Tent sites 65-67 are great for being away from the other sites, and feeling like your more in the woods, with close proximity to the creek. You're still sharing this area with the other 2 sites, with not much separating the sites, but roomy enough to have some privacy. I will say T67 does have option of setting up tent beside the creek, with a picnic table and fire pit separate from the main site, so this is probably the best site compared to the other 2. Pay close attention to the site descriptions on the website - some sites, (T69-75), seemed really close together, maybe better for car camping, but no privacy, and really small. The staff at the office were very helpful and friendly. Overall for the price, I would stay again. I needed a home base for fly fishing trips, and would stay here again, but would be picky about sites, (T65-67 & T76-78) would be probably be the only ones I would pick. Upper bathroom was clean in my opinion, easy walk to the site I was at, but uphill going back. I also found the grounds clean and family friendly. I would recommend for the price. Oh, and they sell wood bundles for $5, (good price) and ice for $4.

Great location close to alot of stuff. We camped from a Thursday-Monday. But with 3 people in one small camper we typically use the bathhouses for showers etc. The bathhouses were dirty when we arrived and were never cleaned during our whole stay. Trash cans in bathhouses overflowing, dirty showers, spiders, smelled like urine and even a random stick on the men’s urinal that stayed there the whole entire stay. Nice campground but won’t be back to do how dirty the bathhouses were… we camped by the river and even went up the hill to the other side of the campground and the bathhouses were the same way.

Things I liked about this campground were the proximity to Grandfather Mountain SP and the view of the mountain as I walked through the campground. Things I did not like were the lack of proper cleanliness (especially in the bathrooms). Our campsite had food left behind on the ground. Picking up papers on the floor in the bathrooms is not enough. The sinks need wiping down and the shower stalls definitely need some love. The tiles appeared to have mold. If you will be using the bathroom in your camper then this won’t be an issue. A NO Smoking sign should be placed in the bathrooms. There was a gentleman who constantly smoked in there (by the B sites). The floor in the laundry room was just as dirty when I left, as when I got there. The electric pedestal placement was super awkward on our site (B28). There is no gate at the entrance/exit. So, anyone can come in and out, making it feel not so secure. A good chunk of the sites are pretty close together (this may or may not bother some).

Our 1st campground in our new trailer! ⛰️🤪 Easy check in, great price, and perfect location from so much. Scenery is beautiful. Little shop has essentials, firewood, ice. Neighbors are all quiet, pet friendly, nice little dog run, very clean, etc. We are very happy with this campground.

Beautiful . Easy check in process. Easy hookups. I can't say enough good things about Grandfather Campground. Beautifully thought out design for ease of getting into the spots and leaving. All hookups are close to the rv . We will definitely be back. They also have the cutest cabin rentals. Tent camping sites were awesome as well.

This is a wonderful camp ground. Lots of open space the showers are hot, clean, and the woman's is heated to a wonderful 88 in the winter so you don't freeze getting dressed. Hiking near by, ski isn't too far either.

My family recently stayed here for two nights in a 2 bedroom cabin shown in the picture. The staff who I spoke with on the phone was friendly and helpful. We checked in late and left before anyone was in the office so we didn't come into contact with anyone in person. The cabin was nice for what it was, no frills but a solid little campground cabin. Everything was clean and in working order. I will add that the cabin did not have central a/c, which wasn't a problem as we were not staying during the summer but if you do plan to come when it's warmer outside it's something to consider. Also, the main living area had 2 couches that two of my kids slept on, but the space is easily large enough to accomodate 2 pull-out couches which would make sleeping easier for extra people (just a suggestion for the owners). All in all, a nice little basic campground and cabin in the mountains.

Certain time of the year the hotels are so crazy priced but had a good deal with a nice size cabin. Plenty of room for the amount of people we had. While it is not gold plated with all the bells and whistles, it was great for a quick stay without paying the high price of competing hotels. Surrounding hotels were going for about 200-600 per night and all you got was a room. Out cabin was very spacious and we even had some real estate to start a camp fire not to mention a very large covered porch. The inside of the cabin could have used some update but what can you expect for camp. We had our own little small house at a reasonable rate. Staffs were friendly and helpful. Only negative experience was some of the product on the self at the store could have use some help or refreshing. Other than this it's a peaceful campground and clean. Expect some areas to be on a bumpy side when driving but then again, it is a campground so what can you expect. If you are looking to not spending an arm and leg this campground's cabins were very reasonable and clean, at least our cabin was clean. Look forward to going back to this place in the near future.
