Grass Point

Overview

Grass Point State Park offers a quintessentially scenic experience on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. This New York State Park is situated on a point of land that provides stunning waterfront vistas for campers and day-users alike. Unlike sprawling commercial resorts, this park maintains a tranquil, community-oriented atmosphere where the river is the primary focus of every stay. Visitors often come here to enjoy the cooling breezes and the rhythmic passing of ships along the American Channel. It serves as a peaceful basecamp for exploring the world-renowned beauty of the Thousand Islands region.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled just a few miles from the heart of Alexandria Bay, the park’s location is both convenient and picturesque. It sits directly on a peninsula, surrounded by the clear waters of the St. Lawrence River. The terrain is relatively flat and open, characterized by lush green lawns and scattered trees that provide intermittent shade. Because it is positioned near the main shipping channel, guests have a front-row seat to massive international freighters navigating the river, adding a unique industrial charm to the natural landscape.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-regarded for its recreational facilities, particularly its expansive sandy beach and designated swimming area. Boaters benefit from a convenient on-site boat launch, making it easy to get out on the water and explore the local channels. The campground offers grassy sites suitable for both tents and RVs, with limited electric hookups available for those who need power. Other key features include a playground for children, multiple picnic tables, and clean bathhouse facilities. While the park is more rustic than a private resort, the well-maintained grounds ensure a comfortable stay for those who enjoy the outdoors.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Staying here puts you minutes away from the vibrant village of Alexandria Bay. The most popular nearby attraction is Boldt Castle, which is located on Heart Island and accessible via a short boat ride. Anglers will find the area excellent for catching smallmouth bass and northern pike. For a different perspective of the region, travelers can visit Wellesley Island State Park or take a professional scenic cruise through the island clusters. The local area also features various gift shops and riverside restaurants that capture the spirit of summer in Upstate New York.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is an ideal match for boating enthusiasts and families who prioritize water access and a relaxed pace. Because the park offers a more traditional camping experience, it is best for RVers who appreciate natural surroundings over high-end commercial amenities. It is a fantastic choice for photographers looking to capture the sunset over the river or for travelers who want a quiet, scenic spot to relax between visits to the more crowded tourist hubs. If you enjoy simplicity and scenery, Grass Point is the perfect fit.

The girl lifeguard, she called the border patrol of usa against me. she was maybe jealous that i was talking more to her friend... her friend stand up from the chair to show her ass and then a minute later a second time on the beach and then looked at me with a big smile. the one with brown hair long. . i just went say hello to her and asked a question. then the blond co worker came to talk to me to answer my question and started to talk to me long time. she was not on the chair. our co-worker was on watch on the chair. therefore i was not disturbing there on watch work. she was attracted by me. but i was not. if she was feeling unconfortable, she will not talk to me that long. i told them i am newcomer etc . the point is they are youngs and its not appropriate to call police on a customer if they feel unconfortable. you call your boss in that situation like any human been normal will do. i think she was jealous that i talked to her friend during our break after. she liked to talk to me very long time with me. then they told me about different cities that i can visit etc. . i gave my business card . then went back next day to quick swim then said hello from 50 feets away and told the brown hair girl, i was going to visit clayton. that said it is nice to visit. the third day which 2 days later, i cane again not long time to swim but did not talk to them. blond girl, instead to ask her superviser to come talk to me about make them feel unconfortable. she called border patrol that day. then the police today after i told her i will make a complaint to her supervisor and maybe the police. she was not stressed or not affraid of me at all. she told to state park police she was feeling unconfortable again. she lied. she was angry that i told her i will call police and report her to her supervisir. she make up a false story to justify to call the police. you don't call the police on a customer if the customer said that he will conplain to her supervisor against her and maybe call the police. the worse the police beleive her story. the fact are she was angry that i told her i am calling the police right now. and it was 4th time I go there and the supervisor told me if i am ok with my truck engine issue. he said he was not aware of the border patrol that came to visit me two days ago. to come back to that blond hair lifeguard . then i go swim and say hello to her. she ignored me with a smile in corner like she did not care of me. i said why are watching at the horizon, is there something wrong ? why are you ignoring me? then i said somebody called Border Patrol police two days ago she said yes we contacted border patrol police on me, she seem enjoy to ignore me with a smile and was very rude with me. like if she don't know me attitude. She has a job because there is customers that pay membership. she said to police because they was feeling not comfortable. ..her friend with brown hair that i was talking originally for the first time. like play game with mans.... then i went swim a minute and on my way back far from her, like 100 feets away, then i told her i will go complaint about her to the park supervisor and maybe police. then she call the police again on me again at the same time i was going to call 911. she was trying to cover up and make a false story to the police and supervisor of state park was behind the police pick ups. at the same time that i called 911. same police state park came to me after they talk to her boss and her (the one maybe jealous that i talked longer with her friend with brown hair) the police told me i did not commit a crime that i can go back to the beach etc. I talked to other lifegusrds on the beach in my life and in fact it was them they was keep continue to talk long time. the blond hair and broen hair girls know i just got my E2 Entrepreneur visa and it took me 14 months and $92,000 usd in investment to get approved. We are customers, you just need call your supervisor when you feel uncomfortable... I almost want a refund of my visa...

Paid $7 to go on a short hike. No trails. Cheap camp sites. How is this classified as a state park. Should be called a campground and beach. Don’t waste your money. The trail seen on google maps doesn’t exist!

More beautiful than we expected. Very well maintained. Manicured lawn areas. Great beach and swimming area for kids with a big play area right across from it. Good surfaces and sidewalks for kids to ride their bikes on. Campsites are in mature trees. Quiet. Big pavilions overlooking the St. Lawrence. Beautiful sunsets and breeze off the river.

Our state parks are generally excellent. And grass Point is no exception. Clean utilities. Docking, boat rentals, plenty of shady campsites. Excellent fishing. You're close to things you may need. The park is well kept and clean. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Just all around a fun and relaxing place to be. Oh and don't forget the clean beach with active life guards. Right near the beach is a nice sized play ground. The bathrooms are clean and are cleaned regularly by park staff. I've been here a week. And not once was there no toilet paper in the stalls.
