Gray Homestead Ocean Campground
Overview
Gray Homestead Ocean Campground offers a quintessential Maine coastal experience for those seeking a quiet retreat. Nestled on the rocky shores of Southport Island, this family-oriented park provides a serene atmosphere far removed from the bustle of modern commercial campgrounds. Visitors looking for a tranquil oceanfront setting will find that the property maintains a traditional, down-to-earth charm that highlights the natural beauty of the mid-coast region.
Location & Surroundings
Situated on the edge of the Atlantic, the campground benefits from stunning views of the surrounding islands and the deep blue waters of the Maine coast. Southport is a picturesque community that remains relatively secluded, making it an ideal destination for those who appreciate scenic coastal drives and slow-paced island living. The winding roads leading to the park are lined with historic charm, dense forests, and salty breezes that define the classic New England maritime landscape.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground focuses on providing the essentials for a comfortable stay while preserving the integrity of the natural environment. Guests can utilize water and electrical hookups at many sites, which are laid out to take full advantage of the ocean views. The grounds include basic facilities for convenience, but the primary draw remains the direct shoreline access, allowing campers to experience the rise and fall of the tides just steps from their vehicles.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
While the park is perfect for relaxing, it serves as a great home base for exploring the region. The nearby town of Boothbay Harbor is easily accessible and offers a variety of maritime excursions and boat tours that showcase the local lighthouses and lobster industry. Travelers often spend their days hiking the local land trust preserves or wandering through the renowned botanical gardens nearby, ensuring a balanced mix of outdoor activity and cultural exploration throughout their trip.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is best suited for RVers who prioritize nature over resort-style amenities and high-energy entertainment. It is an ideal choice for nature lovers and birdwatchers who want to wake up to the sound of crashing waves. If you prefer peaceful evenings by the water and a genuine connection to the Maine coastline rather than swimming pools or cable television, this destination will feel like a hidden coastal sanctuary for your next road trip.

We have been seasonal campers there for 10 years and love it. It is a short walk to our sandy beach, and the sites are spacious. Boothbay Harbor is only a few minutes away.

We chose Gray’s as our seasonal location after much research and painstaking work to pick the best spot in Maine…and we found it!! Working with Travis and Lantz has been a blessing. We are totally new to the RV/Camping scene and were guided with expertise and care by this managing duo. They communicated with us and assisted us over a six month pre-delivery period and greeted us this week as our new home was delivered and installed (early!). This campground is unlike any other! It is impeccably maintained, with oceanfront beauty and charm, fully equipped sites and landscaped beyond compare. We are totally in love with our new summer home! This place has to be experienced in person to really know what it is like!! Come, stay and enjoy!!!

Gray Homestead Ocean Campground is a unique experience compared to other camp grounds! We experienced 3 wonderful seasons here on Southport Island ME. There are so many reasons why we would rate this as a 5 star location. 1. Location - beautiful spot directly on the ocean with private beach and easy access to boat moorings. 2. Layout of the campground is very different than most...ample space between sites and the layout allows for privacy in most spaces. 3. Excellent maintenance - the campground is VERY well maintained....beautiful landscaping and natural surroundings. 4. Access to Boothbay Harbor. Easy 10 minute drive into town with all the restaurants, shops and galleries in easy access. Finally the Gray family. Excellent communication, friendly, welcoming and committed to their family legacy by providing an excellent overall camping experience. Overall, this campground is highly recommended for a truly unique experience in the Booth Bay Harbor Region.

Great basic quiet (adult mostly) campground, few amenities for families with kids, no honky tonk, no loud neighbors. Great for relaxing in quiet solitude. Short drive to Boothbay harbor, close enough to grocery stores, gas stations. Mostly seasonal RV, tent camping available when bathrooms and showers are open (closed this year for covid). Small laundry on site. Clean, friendly, responsive. Just what we wanted!
