This is one of my absolute favorite state parks ever! The spillway grabs your attention right away. Such energy ✨️ The sites are large, bathrooms and showers are roomy and clean and have AC! I was digging for Selenite right next door, and I felt like an archeologist. The drive through the marshlands was beautiful and serene. Hiking on forest trails can't be beat. It's a great change of pace from every other park. Highly recommend 💚

My grandson and I came here and had a lot of fun digging. We had 2 holes. Have to dig pretty deep 18”-24”. The further out, the better and closer to the surface the crystals are. You will get dirty. Bring a big shovel, smaller shovels, something to kneel on, bucket for crystals, drinking water and water to rinse your hands. We brought our wagon and it helped a ton with hauling everything to the dig site. We both give this thumbs up. 😊

Despite what older reviews might say, the cabins now have showers, toilets, and running water. The cabin was clean and air conditioned. Bring food, because the nearest restaurants are half an hour away. Cutlery, pots, and pans are not provided, but there is a stove and microwave.

We put in the address for the Salt Plains just to find out when we got there that the Salt Plains portion is no longer part of the State Park by an employee and she showed us on their map outside the park office that we needed to enter to actually get to the Salt Plains Dig. I feel the park needs to correct this on Google because we went 8 unnecessary miles in the wrong direction, entering the State Park believing we were headed in the correct direction. The actual correct address is in the photos I've shared. There's no public restrooms at the Salt Plains Dig or a place to buy drinks or snacks. The closest available restroom and kwik shop are in the town of Jet on your way there. We did have a good time once we got there, but we bought digging tools and buckets ahead. Next time, we'll bring gloves and a canopy of some kind for shade, but all in all, it was fun our first time there. There is no fee to enter the Salt Plains Dig area and no fee to park. I suggest bringing something on wheels to pull/push your supplies and snacks/cold drinks in because the area is large. Pets are allowed as long as they're on a leash.

Great place that is not too crowded. Lots of wildlife to see, especially aquatic. You are able to self guide thru everything. Places to picnic and camp, clean facilities to use and shower in. NW Oklahoma secret for recreation. Bonus the staff at the park office are very friendly and willing to help and answer questions. Always fun easy and quick trip.
