Clean, comfortable, good views. The bear lockers worked great. You will definitely want to check individual site pictures before booking a pad as some pads could barely hold an 8x8 tent and others could hold two easily. They also say two car limit but the parking spaces by pads varied just as much for if they could comfortably hold 1-2 cars. The campground store was open but hours were a little weird with the shutdown affecting them. There was still a site host/ranger who checked in to make sure the people at sites had the correct reservations and a ranger who did rounds for trash daily.

This is a very nice campground with clean restrooms and you can walk right out to the dunes. The only reason I docked it a star is because the sites are fairly close together and sadly there were a lot of people playing loud music on Bluetooth speakers late into the night and fairly early in the morning. I was impressed though that the second night park rangers actually drove through the campground multiple times enforcing rules related to trash and dogs being off leash.

Beautiful easy to access campground. Well laid out with space for small trailers or campers. Clearly defined camping spots with table and fire pit. Plenty of bear safe lockers and trash cans. Bathrooms are super well maintained. Rangers we're incredibly helpful. Online reservation system highly recommended and easy to use. Clear directions and an on site small store. Easy access to the dunes and several other nearby sites and cities for necessities.

Loved the beauty and remoteness of this campground! The view of the sand dunes and mountain range from the campsite was spectacular!Although there were no showers, the bathrooms seemed brand new and were immaculate! Hiking trails were very accessible and host/hostess were responsive and helpful. We will definitely return to this beautiful place!

Piñon Flats was a fabulous place to stay on our most recent visit to Sand Dunes. The campground was clean and well-managed and the park rangers were all very helpful. We even had deer stop by, which our dog was thrilled by! Even the bathrooms and trash receptacles were clean. Ten out of ten for viewing stars and proximity to the park. Highly recommend!

Wonderful campground with fantastic access to the dunes. Beautiful views all day and night. Flush toilets and clean bathrooms were a huge plus!

Great campground! Super easy access to the Sand Dunes. Peaceful and relatively quiet. Well-maintained camp sites and bathroom facilities. There was a trash bin specifically for kids' diapers in the women's room. There were lots of families and kids at the time we went, as well as several dogs! It is dog-friendly, too, and there are poop bags available. The camp sites are relatively close together, so you won't be isolated, but you will likely have neighbors close by. A few people arrived late at night, so probably expect some headlights and setup noise until later. There is a small campground store with essentials and you can also have firewood delivered to your campsite for an extra 5 bucks (or carry it out yourself). Note: There is a fee to enter the National Park, and this campground is inside the park, so you will need to pay the $25 (?) Or have a National Park Annual Pass ($80). If you enter the park after hours, you won't be charged the fee unless you leave and come back the next day.

The campground has no hook ups, and there are sites for RVs as well as tents. This is a good location to see the dunes, but that’s all that is here. I love to visit national parks, so I made my way to this one. However, this national park does not rank in the top 10 in my opinion.

The accessible campsites in Pinon Flats Campground are undergoing renovation to bring ADA sites into compliance with current standards. Renovations are set to start in August 2025. Sites will be opened if dates of construction change or as soon as construction has been completed. Thank you for your patience during these updates.

Amazing campsite! We didn’t have fire starters and the camp store had just closed. Thankfully the camp host came around and introduced themselves. She was really kind and offered to bring us fire starters from her own campsite. Then John, the camp store employee, showed up a little bit later to start our fire for us!! They were both so friendly and helpful. We stayed at campsite 2, in loop 1. We had a view of both the sand dunes and Mt Herard (?)

The sites are large, and while you can SEE all your neighbors, and they can see you, you're still pretty spread out with plenty of space. Great campground! Great views. Great campground bathrooms.

It is a very well taken care of campground with multiple sites that have amazing views of the dunes! The park staff is friendly and they do rounds to make sure the atmosphere is pleasant! I would definitely reserve a spot here again.

Great campsite! Clean bathrooms and campsites. Sites have some tree cover to help block the wind, as well as bear boxes. Easy walk down to the dunes.

Great campground. Far away from busy roads. Tucked away at a base of a mountain and a great view of the Great Sand Dunes. Very close to the sand dunes. Got to hear an elk at night. The campground also has a tiny store you can buy ice and wood at and other stuff you may have forgotten. Neighbors all respected quiet rules and respected others around them.

Great site by the sand dunes. Some sites are definitely better than others when accounting for view of the dunes, wind exposure, and proximity to other campsites (all are close but not equally as close to each other). Site 39 has a great view of the dunes. Remember this is a national park, not a national forest or state park. Saw park rangers search one car and had another pulled over for a few hours on Saturday so don't do anything stupid while you're here.
