Nice enough place, bathrooms are old but kept clean. -1 star because you can hear the occasional plane/helicopter/emergency vehicle but that’s kind of expected. -1 star for the park rangers. They have very silly rules (no hanging lights on trees, no tying pets to anything while on a leash, if your car is an inch off the concrete they will make you move it). They’re very strict about enforcement. Someone drives around every hour or so.

Do not believe the bad reviews! We usually do despersed camping on forestry roads not campgrounds. Not to many choices if visiting DC. Just a bit close together for my taste but not to bad for a campgound.. clean, quite, nice place.

The restrooms and bathrooms in the B loop are worn down and not well maintained, with a lot of long-dead insects—they probably needed renovations 20 years ago. The camp spots are alright; we stayed at B46 once and later at B78. Those on the outskirts of the loop are definitely quieter, but they’re farther from the bathrooms. Not all sites are level, so keep that in mind. Overall, it’s a good deal for the price and the location, which is close to the metro. We were car camping and drove to the Greenbelt Metro station parking lot.

I was awestruck by this campground! I've been camping for 60 years so I've seen all kinds of campgrounds, restrooms, etc. This campground is beautiful! There was a huge mountain laurel right in our campsite, and the campsite was large enough to put 3 big tents on, plus extra room to move around. The restrooms are a little dated, but they were very clean and well-maintained. The showers were nice and hot. We stayed in site C86 and I would stay in that same spot if I ever visit DC again. The campground was very quiet, but we could hear noise in the background such as the occasional airplane or helicopter, and occasional loud vehicle. That just reminded us that we were in the city and not the mountains (we live near the Smokies). It was a short trip to the Metro station with not much traffic involved, and we got all-day passes for just under $14 each plus the parking fee in the Metro lot ($10 per day). The only real traffic we encountered was on our way into DC and on our way out. I can't recommend this overnight option enough for those who like camping. At $20 per night, it's pretty much a no-brainer for accommodations while visiting DC. It cost more to board my dog for the week than it did to accommodate 4 adults!

Worst camping experience of my life. The tent sites are tiny - you can barely fit one small tent on our site, even though they are marketed as being able to accommodate three tents per site. The fire-pits are so deep that you can't cook any food with the grill unless you create a RAGING inferno. Each site is basically on top of the next, and when the place got crowded with families and children, there was no privacy or quiet. You can hear everyone around you because they are basically five feet away at all times. The camp is INFESTED with ticks and tent caterpillars. The caterpillars cover everything - from the picnic tables to the trees, all over the bushes and the ground. The ticks are even worse. Despite my bug spray I was bitten and covered with ticks daily. The bathrooms are DISGUSTING and the men's room had only one handicap accessible toilet that has been out of order for what looks like years. The bathrooms are infested with orb weaver and wolf spiders. The water smells bad, like a mixture of chlorine and rust. The park rangers, who apparently have no time clean or repair the bathrooms, have plenty of time to issue "citations" for things as stupid as "parking one wheel of the car into the grass" (the parking spots ARE TOO SMALL) or "hanging lights from the trees" (we had solar string lights that weigh less than on ounce!). Good to know that they spend their time worrying about things like that instead of making the place handicap accessible. Don't stay here.

There is no electricity. The bathrooms aren't very clean. The interstate is not far away, so you can hear the road noise. But other than that it is a nice place to camp at

The place is beautiful. Very clean facilities and campsites. Lots of greenery and active park rangers. You’re close enough to the city but can’t tell…unless it’s at night. The racing traffic echos through the campgrounds so while it’s magical, bring ear plugs. The trails were gorgeous, well maintained and marked. Highly recommend for a day trip or camping.

Love that you can book this last minute! It was great for 1 night as a half way point to Philly. Beautiful campground! Especially for only $20 - worth the money. Con — bathrooms are not very clean.. But they did have hot showers!

We were nearby, looking for a place to spend the night and found this campground on Google Maps. The website allowed us to make a reservation late in the night (it's mandatory). We arrived around 11pm, it was easy to find the site, everything was well signed, the restroom is in the middle of the campground, close to all sites and has shower available. A big plus is that the sites are in the middle of the trees, so the sun won't bother you in the morning. The downside is that has ton of spiders everywhere! 😰
