We went to the heated swimming pool. Clean and well kept. Lifeguards were very laid back and kid friendly. Not a bunch of whistle blowing. Some kids were running, diving, grabbing the rope. Nice to not feel like rules were too, too serious. The dressing rooms and restrooms look just like they did in 1979 when I was there as a teenager. Old and dated, but clean. Not Dog Friendly. Don't ask about bringing your pet. If you are blind and you are dependent on a seeing eye dog then you could get a pass on that, but no emo dogs, no swimming dogs.

Probably the 22nd year I've camped here. We stay in the overflow because we have a large group and can get loud with all the kids. It's primitive camping. They come and get the trash. There is a pool you have to pay to use (even though it was almost $600 to camp for 10 days) and hiking trails. If you rent a cabin, you get pool passes (I think). The older gentleman that picked up trash was really nice and the lady working the gift shop when we went was very nice to my daughter. The bathrooms are generally clean (it's camping, there are bugs lol), showers were clean (still bugs), what few times I've been to the pool, it was clean. Already planning our next trip there next year!

Really nice state forest with lots to do. Easy access from I-64. There's hiking, camping, cabins, swimming, playgrounds, shelters, a disk golf course and a lot more. We were there on the off season so the restrooms near the playground were closed due to weather. The playground was fantastic! Love that some of the shelters are handicap accessible and the trail heads have a QR code to download the map. Stopped by the park office and gift shop on the way out. We will definitely be back in the spring/summer to explore more.

Nice clean, quiet campground. We stayed in site #2 which was back in and pretty much level. The bathrooms were clean and there were showers available. Our site was close to the road, so it was noisy at times. Probably better to stay near the back of the campground??? There is also a one lane tunnel to get to the State Park. 15.0 foot clearance in the center.

We rented cabins 5&6, CCC original builds from 1930's that have been updated with electric, water, sewer, wifi, and air condition/heat. A double bed and futon couch, can sleep 3. Kitchen has full size oven/stove and fridge. Screened porch was perfect for sitting outside, but safe from sun and bugs. Fire ring and wood supplied. Picnic table next to cabin and charcoal grill (renter needs to provide charcoal). Bathroom had nice features, but tight maneuver room where knees, elbows, and extra thick bodies may have some discomfort. Towels and bedding provided. Pool up by security and entrance, 1 mile away. Could walk, but parking available. Free to cabin guests, but non campers can pay for day $5. Lifeguard on duty and small snack bar. Has little tike area, too. Hours 11:30-5:30pm, closed Monday. Rangers were actively monitoring. Often doing rounds. Friendly and helpful. Playground in cabin area simple, but fun with teeter, swings, slide and merry-go-round (old school style). No parking at playground, but if nice to cabin 5, it's across the drive and may allow. Noise is only issue. The cabins are spaced nicely, but sound travels easily in holler. Road is close, people and dogs walk often, and kids play as expected. So, not recommended if want seclusion, but it is better than many RV parks - since many trees and grass open areas. We explored New River National Park, which is 30 minutes to Sandstone Visitor Center, 1 hr + to Canyon Rim. Be warned that the address listed is misleading and will have you traveling further than necessary. The cabins are a mile south of entrance, so google to there. Tunnel just off I64 is 14ft clearance. Campground and picnic area south of cabins, but we never went there to check them over.
