Greenfield

Overview

Greenfield State Park offers a classic New Hampshire woods-and-water experience that defines the region's outdoor appeal. Spread across 400 acres, it provides a spacious and rustic retreat for campers looking to truly disconnect. The park is defined by its massive footprint and the scenic shores of Otter Lake, making it a staple for traditional outdoor enthusiasts. It serves as a peaceful haven for those who prefer the sounds of nature and the smell of a campfire over the hum of a modern commercial resort.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled in the heart of the Monadnock Region, the park feels secluded despite being easily accessible from the state's main thoroughfares. The landscape is characterized by dense forests of white pine and oak, with the shimmering lake serving as the central focal point. Visitors are surrounded by the quiet beauty of rural New Hampshire, with the striking profile of Mount Monadnock nearby, providing a quintessential New England backdrop that changes beautifully with the seasons.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a rustic destination, meaning visitors should prepare for a traditional camping experience without modern hookups. The park features over 250 wooded campsites that offer significant privacy and a genuine forest feel. While there are no electrical or water connections at the sites, park features include:

  • Access to a sanitary dump station and potable water spigots throughout the grounds.
  • Multiple bathhouses equipped with hot showers and modern plumbing.
  • Dedicated swimming beaches for campers and boat rentals for exploring the lake.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for those staying in this part of the state. Campers can spend their days hiking the park’s internal trail system or heading to nearby peaks for panoramic views. Popular activities in the area include:

  • Hiking the famous Mount Monadnock, located just a short drive from the park entrance.
  • Exploring the charming shops, independent bookstores, and cafes in historic Peterborough.
  • Visiting Crotched Mountain for additional hiking and birdwatching opportunities.

Very fairly priced, the beach and kayaking on the calm lake is always the highlight of my stay. There are plenty of things to do with younger or older children, including a big park on the lake. I have never had a bad experience here, so nothing to complain about.

Newly renovated statecpark. Spacious tent and RV sites. Beautiful beach area with the possibility of non-motorized water sports. Great for families.

Stayed in September 2025 during the off-season, which meant very few people around—a big plus. Check-in staff were friendly and welcoming. The beach and swimming area were excellent, and the park had some great bike rides. Everything was very quiet, with plenty of space between campsites—much better than the packed, commercial-style campgrounds. We didn’t bring our dogs this trip, but agreed it would be a fantastic spot for them since the sites are so spread out. We would definitely stay again. A note for anyone with a fifth wheel: at site 87 you’ll need to pull all the way into 88 to get in, or else back down the road. I recommend walking the area first to see if pulling into 88 will give you the best angle to back in. 12 minutes from North Pack Monadnock trail head

Quite and serene surroundings to camp and relax. Ample parking with options of washroom available. A lot of spots to do barbecue and benches to accommodate large groups. Lake nearby to swim. Park closes at around 7, so plan accordingly.

We started coming here when I was little to come tent camping. It turned into a tradition that I continued with my children. My husband and I have sense bought a travel trailer and still find ourselves always wanting to come here! The sites are private, spacious, and clean. The staff is super nice. The lake is great. Can't say enough good things about our favorite campground!! Memories from here will last a lifetime!
