Gros Morne/Trout River
Overview
Nestled within the southern reaches of the iconic Gros Morne National Park, the Trout River Campground offers a serene escape for travelers seeking a deep connection with nature. This Parks Canada facility provides a quieter alternative to the more bustling hubs of the park, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the dramatic landscapes of western Newfoundland. It serves as a perfect base for exploring the unique geological wonders of the Tablelands, where the earth's mantle is exposed to the world in a striking display of orange rock.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated just minutes from the charming fishing village of Trout River and sits adjacent to the stunning Trout River Pond. The surrounding landscape is defined by the stark mountains of the Tablelands and the lush, green valleys that contrast sharply against the deep blue waters. Staying here means waking up to views of ancient rock formations and the fresh, salty breeze coming off the Gulf of St. Lawrence, creating an atmosphere of prehistoric wonder that is unique to this part of the island.
Amenities & Park Features
While the setting is rugged, the amenities cater well to modern RVers. The park features semi-serviced sites equipped with electricity, ensuring a comfortable stay. Essential facilities available at the campground include:
- Clean washrooms with hot showers and flush toilets.
- Potable water stations and a convenient RV dump station.
- Communal kitchen shelters for food preparation and gathering.
Each individual site also includes a fire pit and picnic table, allowing for traditional evening campfires under the vast Newfoundland sky after a day of exploration.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is never far away, with the world-renowned Tablelands Trail located just a short drive from your campsite. Hikers can traverse the rare peridotite rock or tackle the challenging trek to the top of the plateau for panoramic views. Trout River Pond offers guided boat tours that reveal the scale of the surrounding cliffs, while the Green Gardens trail leads through meadows down to volcanic sea stacks. In town, the local boardwalk and fresh seafood restaurants provide a delightful taste of coastal life.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for nature enthusiasts and photographers who prioritize scenery and tranquility over commercial resort amenities. It is a haven for hikers and geologists eager to explore the Earth's history up close. RVers who prefer a quiet, rustic atmosphere and the ability to disconnect from the digital world will find the Trout River area to be one of the most rewarding and visually stunning stops on a Newfoundland road trip.

If your looking for a relaxing retreat with the sound of the ocean waves and sea birds pouring in through your windows this place is for you. We enjoyed our stay at the upper level beach house. Beautiful views and such a quite peaceful town. Great for fires on the beach and visiting the unique geological features of the table lands and other gros morne destinations. Very clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. Pet friendly! And beds are very comfortable. Would be more than happy to stay here again.

A great space, very clean and right near the waterfront. Beautiful sunsets from inside on couches, outside on the veranda or you can take a short walk to the beach.
