Overview
Guernsey State Park offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance for the modern RVer. Nestled along the shores of the Guernsey Reservoir, this park is renowned for its stunning CCC-era architecture and rugged canyon landscapes. It serves as a tranquil getaway for those traveling through eastern Wyoming, providing a scenic backdrop for water recreation and deep historical exploration. The park's layout encourages a slow-paced visit, perfect for those looking to disconnect from the hustle of the highway while enjoying well-preserved National Historic Landmarks.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated just outside the small town of Guernsey, WY, making it an easy stop for those exploring the high plains of the American West. Surrounded by ponderosa pine and juniper trees, the landscape features dramatic rock formations and sweeping views of the reservoir. The elevation provides stunning sunset views over the water, which often reflects the red-hued cliffs surrounding the campsites. Its proximity to the North Platte River ensures a diverse ecosystem for local wildlife sightings and birdwatching throughout the year.
Amenities & Park Features
While the park leans toward a natural experience, it provides essential comforts for RVers across several distinct campgrounds. Many campsites offer electric hookups and are designed to accommodate various rig sizes. The park features the following amenities for visitors:
- 30-amp and 50-amp electric service
- Centralized dump station and potable water access
- The historic Guernsey Museum and The Castle pavilion
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the water, the area is a treasure trove for history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts. Just minutes away are the Oregon Trail Ruts, where deep wagon tracks are still visible in the soft sandstone. You can also visit Register Cliff, where pioneers carved their names as they headed west. Boating, swimming, and fishing on the reservoir remain the primary draws during the summer months. The nearby town offers basic supplies, while the surrounding trails provide miles of exploration through the juniper-dotted hills.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for travelers who appreciate a rustic, historical atmosphere rather than a polished luxury resort. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for an educational stopover or outdoor adventurers wanting to boat and hike. If you enjoy visiting historic sites and the quiet beauty of the Wyoming plains, this park fits your travel style perfectly. It is particularly well-suited for self-contained RVers who are comfortable navigating winding roads to reach some of the most scenic campsites in the state.

Nice new class room building, and motel room building. The new Chow hall serves good food, and the staff are very friendly.
