Summer Trout

October 19, 2025

We spent a long family weekend (2 adults, adult child & boyfriend, 1 teenage child, & a chocolate lab) staying at Happy Acres Resort. The campground and the surrounding area was beautiful and the location was perfect for us to explore the PA Grand Canyon and more local trails for hiking. We stayed in the Whitetail Ridge cabin and it’s a really cute cabin that technically sleeps 7 (full size room, full/twin bunk room, 2 twins in the loft). My only “grrr” (thus the 3 stars) with the cabin was that it did not have a table to accommodate even 4 people for eating together or playing board/card games (both of which are things we do regularly as a family). There was a small table for two inside that was attached to the wall, but the brackets did not seem able to bear the weight of two bags of groceries, so we ending up folding it down and not using it. There was a small table for two outside, but again - not enough for 4 or 5 people to sit together. To be fair, it looked like all of the other cabins had regular picnic tables outside, but ours did not. We ended up eating our meals on our laps on the couch watching TV (or on chairs around the fire) and we scrapped playing any games in the evenings. Not a big deal, just a bummer. Lenora was polite and helpful on the phone while making the reservations. I agree with another reviewer that it feels risky paying in full weeks before with no option of refund/credit in case of an emergency - because life just happens. The camp store staff was helpful (attached to the restaurant) and our waitress at the restaurant was very friendly and accommodating. It was surprising (but not necessarily a bad thing) that during our 3 night stay, we never actually interacted with any campground staff, upon check in or check out. If it matters to you, do not plan on having cell service other than SOS (we have Verizon), and while there is technically Wi-Fi offered in the campground, nothing loaded on any of our phones (maps, basic webpages, etc) unless we were sitting outside of the men’s bathroom in the Wi-Fi hotspot. Overall, it was a nice play and I would recommend it.

We found Happy Acres a few years ago when we were looking for a bigger space for our family to vacation for a week. The Lodge is the perfect set up for us, plenty of room for everyone so we are not on top of each other, 2 bathrooms (essential for the big group!), and in a great location for easy access to the area. Bonus because dogs are allowed, so we are able to bring our girls along and take them hiking/biking with us. The only thing I would note is that the cleaning is relatively minimal - found food in the recliner when we opened it, drain clogged in the bathroom with lint and hair, etc... We usually clean when we get there anyways, so not a big deal, but something to note if you are expecting the place to be spotless.

Recently stayed with a group of friends for a bike weekend. We have been going here for years now. For some odd reason they decided to do a controlled burn throughout the campground on a weekend. We had to smell smoke for the rest of the day, and then had to watch to not drag that ash into our cabin, then resulting in some extra cleaning fee. Other than dealing with that, pretty weekend and good quiet location.

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Gorgeous cabin (Racoon Ridge). Great price for the cabin - fire pit, porch overlooking valley below, Close to very long biking/hiking trail and not far from the Pa. Grand Canyon's highest vistas and the charming city of Wellsboro . Could go tubing on Little Pine Creek right beside the Resort. Waterville Hotel is just down Rt. 44 where there is a bar, small restaurant and McConnell's (a local) grocery store. Only criticism is with management total reliance on email contact with potential customers. No telephone contact. Very frustrating when you're not yet convinced that you want to go there. Once you've committed your interest in an email, they will respond promptly. They also required full payment upon reservation upfront with no refund should something change. Their office is sort of bare and seems to work on a shoe string budget. Once I made in person contact with Brittany and Lenora, I found them to be very helpful and kind. We went in mid September so things were very quiet and maybe they were recovering from their summer onslaught of campers.

Nice clean quiet campground.. the hand dipped ice cream cones from the camp store were HUGE (and tasty..) for the price. Cabin we stayed in was well stocked from the kitchen to bathrooms and even beds having extra blankets, if needed. Playground area was great for little ones with lots of different and some nostalgic playsets. A few cons being absolute garbage cell service and stinky sulfur water.

Our stay at Happy Acres Resort, Dec., 2021 was very bad. Our 3 bed room cabin, had a kitchen, with 3 coffee cups.. The utensil drawer was full of bread crumbs and other food particulars. The living room was very dirty., lots of dirt under the sofa. The sofa and chairs were so dirty, I laid sheets on sofa to sit on it. These were the same chairs and sofa that were there 3 years ago, bad than. Should have been trashed. The bed had plastic covers over the mattress, these were so old and stiff, you could not tuck your sheets in, TERRIBLE! ..Just a reminder, check your room before moving in. Lighting in cabin very bad. There was a cigarette bucket on front porch, with over 50 + butts in it, never dumped, no one cared. Was my last stay at "Unhappy Acres" Maybe the owner should take a few minutes and check his resort rooms out.

Two couples for 4 nights at Hill Top cabin in mid-October 2021. We really enjoyed our accommodations and stay. Beautiful place, good food at the restaurant, delicious ice cream (within walking distance is a plus), nice people and all was as promised. If you're light sensitive at night don't take the master bedroom (queen-size bed) because street light outside the bedroom light shines through the white blind. We left a suggestion they consider a black-out blind for just that room. We hope to go back with others, maybe to see the wild flowers blooming next spring!

I stayed two nights at hummingbird cabin. The water pressure and temperature is quite good. The gas pot leaks a little bit. Remember bring hair dryer and shampoo. I don't like plastic mattress cover. The wifi and cable is not working.

I was extremely disappointed with the room we got. We had paid to stay in the Mountains Den for one night. From the pictures, the room looked nice. When we arrived, it had a very strong musty odor. It was very dirty, like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. The outside was dirty and had green mold on the patio furniture that was caked on. We were so disgusted that we walked right out and luckily were able to get a campsite at Little Pine campground. We stayed at Happy Acres two years ago in a different room and it was nice. I don’t know what happened with this room but it was a dump and a complete waste of money. Very disappointed
