Harry S. Truman Lake - COE/Longshoal
Overview
Managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, Longshoal Park provides a peaceful retreat along the shores of Missouri's largest flood control lake. It serves as a gateway to the diverse ecosystems of the Ozarks, where the rolling prairie meets the dense forest. Travelers here often seek a quiet connection with nature, enjoying the scenic vistas and the rhythmic sounds of the water. It is a quintessential Corps park, offering a balance of utility and raw natural beauty that attracts repeat visitors every season.
Location & Surroundings
Situated on the eastern shore of Harry S. Truman Lake, the park is just a short drive from the historic town of Warsaw, MO. The landscape is defined by rolling hills, limestone bluffs, and dense timberland characteristic of the region. Its position on a peninsula provides many sites with direct views of the massive 55,000-acre reservoir. The surrounding area remains relatively undeveloped, ensuring that the night skies remain dark and the atmosphere stays tranquil for campers throughout their stay.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features over 100 sites, many equipped with 30-amp or 50-amp electrical hookups to accommodate various rigs. Visitors have access to modern conveniences including hot showers, flush toilets, and a centrally located laundry facility. For those bringing watercraft, the park includes a high-quality boat ramp and access to a nearby marina for fuel and supplies. Families appreciate the designated swimming beach and playground, which make the summer heat much more manageable for younger travelers.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is the primary draw, with the lake being famous for its white bass and crappie populations. Beyond the water, the Harry S. Truman Visitor Center offers educational exhibits about the dam’s history and local wildlife. Hiking enthusiasts can explore the nearby Shawnee Bend Trail, which offers miles of rugged terrain for various skill levels. For a change of pace, the town of Warsaw features charming antique shops and the scenic Drake Harbor trail system along the beautiful Osage River.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize water access and natural surroundings over luxury resort amenities. It is a favorite for boaters and anglers looking for easy lake entry and reliable boat ramps. Families who enjoy traditional camping experiences like roasting marshmallows and stargazing will find the park very accommodating. It is particularly well-suited for those traveling in mid-sized RVs or trailers who appreciate the spacious, shaded lots provided by the COE.

Very nice campground for tent or RV camping. Has electric and water no sewer. But for the price is great, plus you don't have to check out until 6pm. So you can still spend part of the day on the lake before you have to pack up and leave.
