Hart D Ranch Doubletree RV Park

Overview

Hart D Ranch Doubletree RV Park offers a unique and rugged Alaskan experience for travelers exploring the vast landscapes of the interior. Located in the small community of Slana, this park serves as a welcoming gateway for those looking to immerse themselves in the northern wilderness. It provides a peaceful setting where the scale of the landscape takes center stage, offering a more authentic and quiet atmosphere than the busier tourist hubs found along the major highways.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near the northern entrance of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, the park is surrounded by dramatic mountain vistas and boreal forests. The location in Slana provides a front-row seat to the Copper River valley, where the air is crisp and the wildlife is often nearby. This area is known for its untouched natural beauty, providing a sense of isolation that is perfect for those who want to disconnect and enjoy the true spirit of the Last Frontier.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed to accommodate the needs of self-contained travelers while offering essential comforts. Guests can find electric hookups and water service to keep their rigs operational during their stay. The layout of the park allows for easy navigation for various rig sizes, and the pet-friendly policy ensures that your four-legged companions can join the adventure. While the facilities are straightforward and rustic, they provide everything necessary for a comfortable stay in a remote environment.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for visitors is the proximity to the Nabesna Road, which winds into the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias. This route offers incredible opportunities for backcountry hiking, photography, and wildlife spotting. Visitors often spend their days exploring the abandoned mining history of the region or fishing in nearby streams. The park's location makes it an ideal basecamp for day trips into the national park, where the scale of the glaciers and peaks is truly humbling.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for adventurous RV travelers who prioritize proximity to nature over luxury resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for photographers and outdoor enthusiasts who want easy access to one of the nation's largest protected wilderness areas. If you are looking for a serene and scenic stopover where you can watch the sunset over the Wrangell Mountains, Hart D Ranch Doubletree RV Park fits your travel style perfectly.

We stayed two nights in our fifth wheel in one of the four gravel sites in front of the owners home/lodge. Our site was long, but narrow with a small grassy living area. Hookups & WiFi worked well. We were also able to get 3 air channels. Stayed here to drive & hike Nabesna road. Solid stay, although nightly rate was high.

Beautiful area! It was clean & easy enough to get in & out of, with only four parking lot campsites available (early-mid June). Sewer pipe was elevated (couldn't drain DOWN), owner's dogs barked incessantly if we made a move & lawn was mowed after 10 pm...nothing egregious, but $50/night...idk.

What a fantastic place to stay. The room was so nice we didn't want to leave the next morning. Huge screen TV, all the comforts in the middle of nowhere. And the woman that owns the place is super interesting and really nice. Highly recommended!

Stopped at the beginning of the season, only 4 RV sites were open. Sites were clean and level, full hook-up. Owner was very nice and helpful. As a plus, she is a very talented wildlife artist with beautiful bronze work on display.

What a pleasant surprise! Hart D ranch is an oasis in the wilderness. Completely exceeded our expectation. Our room in the rooster lodge is very clean, spacious, well appointed, and the bathroom comes with lovely music, gentle as a breeze, so relaxing. My husband enjoyed the coffee and muffin, I loved the hot tea. The best part yet is to talk to Mary and listening to her legendary stories in this great land. Highly recommend it. We certainly had a memorable stay. No doubt this is the best place to stay for weary travelers while exploring the largest National Park in north America -- Wrangell St. Elias NP.
